both ships are real-time models.

rendered without lights in max but added some film grain and a slight color ramp to lighten the foreground in PS. it may be a little dark .. i think my gamma is off.

the perry frigate(foreground) is just under 9k triangles. the burke destroyer(background) is about 1500 less (mast rigging on the frigate ate the polies :) )

master textures were used in the render. the models use 4 1024 maps and 1 256 map (weapons). the 1024 maps will drop to 512 when incorporated in the realtime engine.

this is my first post in the finished gallery forum. i usally just post finals in the game forum. the firgate looks large in this pic but its scaled :shrug:

crits are always welcomed.

working on a ticonderoga<sp> cruiser now and then ill start a nimitz carrier.

nice ships, I really like the textures :)
but 9k triangles is quite a lot compared to the 1500 of the destroyer, wouldn't an alpha-map have been enough for some parts of the mast rigging?

oops ... my mistake in the wording of the post.

the frigate is 8,796 triangles. the destroyer is 7,220. i was trying to say the destroyer is 1500 (+/-) less, not 1500 total :)

the app these are going in will not have anything but a large water plane and a sky box. the ships will not be going into port or be a part of a large fleet where you will see all the ships on the screen at the same time, so i had a lot to work with in the poly dept. im sure when i start the carrier ill run out of polies (10k cap for each ship)

i did an alpha version first but a 1024 alpha map slowed the app down more then using the additional triangles :shrug: . i also had issues with it not showing the alpha rigging through the alpha (like that made any sense)


@xjgd4321 - you must really, really like the textures :)
