View Full Version : Weird Maya Problem
Whenever I try to use any of the options under the Help menu (Such as Index, Tutrorials, Ect.), it tries to go to the right file, but it ends up opening up an Internet Explorer window and puts the wrong path. Confused? Heres an example of what happens when I try to open Index under the Help menu.
Internet Explorer opens and this is in the address bar:
http://localhost:4444/Maya5.0/en_US/InstantMaya/index.html
Obviously, it doesn't open up the right file because it adds that unneeded localhost:444 crap. I realize, I could just open the actual file, but it's a hassle. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help in advance!

That "localhost crap" as you put it is perfectly fine. Maya runs a small webserver on your computer to serve the documentation.
For some reason its not running on your system. So go to
Start>>Control Panel>>Administrative Tools>>Services
Then look for the Alias help server or Alias Documentation server, right click on it, and choose Start. Double click on the service and make sure the Startup is set to Automatic, so that it starts each time the computer reboots.
Thanks for the info and fast reply Pyro, but I can't find it under Services. :hmm:

In that case you need to get the service installed. In your C:\Program Files\AliasWavefront\Maya5.0\docs (Or wherever your maya is installed) dir there should be a installService.bat file. Run that, then check to see if the service got installed, then start it.
Weird, thats not there either. I went to the docs folder, and the following are there:
Documents (Folder)
port (Text Document)
Remove.tmp (Tmp file)

You probally need to use your install CD and install/re-install the Document server, it seems it wasn't installed in the first place.
I borrowed the CD's from my moms friend she works with and had to return them
