View Full Version : Wildcat for 3dmax any good?
octopus77 06-08-2004, 10:50 PM Hello comunity!!!
I´m thinking in buing a wildcat VP 880, or someone like that.
But before i spend the money, i wabted to be shure if this is a good choice.
Mi soft is 3d max 6, and now i´m with a nvidia fx 5200, wich is the worse card i ever had, that´s why i´m thinking in spend some extra money and get a pro card.
Well, just wanted to know your experiences with this card and soft.
Thanks in advance:thumbsup:

hey.
i used to be a huge wildcat supporter. i have a VP870. many people here will tell you the cards are crap. i'd say they are and they aren't. i get great performance out of my card, and they used to have monthly driver updates. the problem is their support. they brought out these VP cards and they're not fully directx9 capable. now 3dlabs are releasing their "realizm" cards in a little while and people on the forums are speculating the support for the VP cards will eventually end.
if i were you, i'd go out and get an ati card. it'll cost less, it'll be up to date, and you'll get great performance out of it.
additionally, some people on the 3dlabs forum are complaining about problems with max6 and the VP cards. i'm running 5.1 and get great performance, but you'd do better with a new(er) card.

mbroeska :
Tank you for your advise.
When you say an ATI will cost me less, wich one are you talking about, do you mean a pro level one. Could you or anybody tell me a model.
here in spain the W vp 880 is about 360 $ what model and brand would be the best choice for you with that budget or (better) less.
Thank you
Pablo

I`m using a VP880 pro with dual screen. I`m satisfied with the performance in 3d Studio but thats all, it`s useless for anything else. Go for the Quadro`s they won`t fail you, Ati has also driver problems...

One of my computers uses the WildCat 5110 with dual screens and it worked very well with max, ps, premiere, and all that other graphic stuff...CAD even.
I really like it all though now my new computer uses the Nvidia Quadro 3000...now that is a nice card;)
