Hi

I'm new to XSI, and I'm currently learning the basics. I come from Lightwave, and I'm really enjoying XSI toolset.

I wanted to know if NURBS capabilities of this package are good compared to other packages (Maya, MAX, C4D...) since it seems a good modeling approach, left out by the Newtek team. I'm an industrial engineer student, and NURBs are used a lot in industrial design, that's the reason of mi interest.

If anyone can give some orientation, I would be really pleased!

cheers

Nurbs tools in XSI are weak. The polytools, for the most part, are better than anyone elses. The SUBDs really rock. With XSI version 4.0 (http://www.edharriss.com/xsi/version4.htm) you'll have even better polytools.

don't confuse nurbs with patch modeling that generates polys (like in max).

XSI's nurbs are good for what they are supposed to be used for, IE as aid to other tools or a technical aid to custom tools.

they don't compare to maya's (that I honestly don't find on par with Rhino or any CAM/CAE app).

if you want to model in XSI your best bet is geometry approximation on polys, nurbs are a good place to start something, convert to polys and then move on with the details, but hardly ever suitable to anything more then that for the simple modeling aspect.
