I am making a swim cycle for my Sea beastie and I can get the flippers moving correctly, but I was wondering would you guys use a deformer or animate the bones of the tail in order to get that Crocodile like swish movement happening?

Memories failing as to which version this came in but I believe there are two dolphins n the samples (examples) folder in the installation. They have exactly what your looking at doing.

Bones will give you flexability if you want to do anything else, but sometimes the simple option might do the trick. I often use deformers to do animation in my commercial work, since I know there wont be any else other than what I need. and I need the speed, as I often have a fast approaching deadline. For my longform stuff I will go to town with bones, as I know I will be doing loads of stuff to my character.

I might wait and rig it properly when I can get my hands on 8.
