I am a Ltw user and have only dabbled in Maya. However, I am trying to use a plugin to get my Ltw docs into StudioMax utilizing the OBJ format. THe problem is that when I import them into Max the importer triangulates all of my polys. I work really hard to maintain quads when I model and I need that to translate to max if at all possible.
I was wondering if any of you guys had to cross that same bridge?
Have you had to take Maya quads and import them into Max? If so how did you avoid the triangulation problem? Maybe I am setting something wrong in the plugin options.

ok, if i understand correctly, you want maya files into max, or lightwave files into max. What you need to do is if you are in maya, you export your object into iges and when you import into max the file will be perfect. I don't know if you can export into iges in lightwave, but if you can that is what you need to do. i was going through your same predicament except i needed to get the files between max and rhino and maya.

Use .DXF files, it works, they all support .DXF files,
dosen't work like a charm, but it's good enough,
you might have to flip normals on a few polys,
but that's it... ohhh! no, you loose all 5 points polys and + too :(
but it's not that big of a deal ;)

hope this helps :)

Muchase gracias guys....
as it turns out there is a plugin for Max that allows me to directly import my lightwave files into StudioMax. I was referencing Maya because of its relationship to the OBJ format... as it turns out, I may not even need to use OBJ.
Thanks for your help though.

Where can you get the Max plug to load Lightwave files directly w/o triangulating?
