View Full Version : try this again... CE Camera focus?
Xtrude 06-06-2004, 01:59 PM OK, we got the problem of posting figured out... sorry to those who clicked on this thread before and came up with nada,,,
now then... I modeled a corridor for a space station I am working one, and I decided to test out the C4D v8.5 trial to color and render for a look see... wow, nice app btw, it handled things suprisenly well on my little machine
anyways, here's a pic with the render from 8.5, and a shaded shot from v6CE... and here's the question... I would like to set up the cam in CE to gain the same depth in perspactive as what was found as default in v8.5... I RTFM, and I for what ever reason am not able to adjust the foal distance for y or z, but rather only for x... I need to change the distance along z in CE as the shaded shot indicates this distance is too short... but it does not come in as an available option..

anyways, anybody please tell me how to fix the focal length in perspective within CE please, it would sure help so as to be able to save my work while further learning this super app. :)

What does CE stand for? Is that the same as v6?

Yes, it is the free version of 6 which came in 3D world mag...

Have you tried a different focal length? A smaller focal length will give a more distorted prespective. Though to me it looks like the rendered version is physically longer, could be a camera trick though.
i tried to find info about the r6,7,8 standard focal-lenghts but i didn´t succeed:hmm:
anyone an idea? srek, maybe?

Xtrude - If you are talking about Depth of Field then you must first add a camera to your scene. Can not create DOF with the default camera. Double click the camera in the Object manager and and turn on DOF there, and adjust settings to fit your needs. You can also set the front and rear DOF interactivily by dragging the orange handles.
it´s not about dof but the camera viewing angle (the 6ce viewing angle seems different to 8.5).

Hi Randy, Hi sad... :)
actualy it just may have to do with both.
sad is right in that this file opens default in CE as this short looking model, yet opens up just fine as a longer looking one in v8.5... for what ever reason
but yea, I would suppose that dof is exactly what I am looking for to change... so I will try your suggestion out Randy, and thanks for this :)

are you using a real camera or are you using an editor camera?
if you are using an editor camera then you need to check whether the fov matches between the two versions of cinema you have - you will need to go to the tools menu and choose 'Camera'. this will load the editor camera information into the co-ordinates manager and you can check and alter your zoom/fov, etc.
this is also one of the ways you can fix an editor camera where you have incorrectly zoomed in and framed instead of dollying in and your camera has got 'stuck'.
cheers, simon w.

Hey thanks for the info Simon, thing is when this info comes up the only option available/open to edit is along x...
but no worries, I just tried out what Randy suggested, didn't really get just what was what, then followed a graphic example sad posted on another board I frequent and whoila...
yea, I have created another cam, adjusted the green bounding box wire thingies, and yea baby, looks just the same as it did in v 8.5...
this is very good to have a few members help out in such a short period of time... awesome in fact... I am now working happily in CE and on my way to furthering my space station... I will post it when completed.
Thanks very much you all of you guys for extending your helping hands... cheers indeed

Glad I could help even if it was in an indirect way
I will be teaching a class called Intro to 3D modeling and we will be using C4D CE. So I need all the practice at answering questions.
For those interested in the class check out the website.

Thanks Randy,
I posted the link and info at PlanIT 3D since I know there are others there that may be interested since you're using C4D 6CE.
