This is my first character ever made and I chose MichelAngelo's David as a subject. I modeld him in 3ds max 6 using Epoly and rendering has been done using Mental Ray. Tell me what you think about it.

Nice Model.

couple of things that cought my eye.

1. the rib cage is too big compared to the torso.
2. hands are too big.
3. fingers seem too long.

did you build this off a reference photo?

left chest area seems like its sagging too much.

post a wire

Thanks for your reply. Actually the real David has oversized hands/fingers and so has mine. About the ribcage you mentioned- yes I modeled him after reference photos (there are plenty of him on the net but only few give you good hints of angles and proportions). I thought I matched his shape not too bad.... but I really got tired after tweaking him for so long. I attached a wire which is really messed up and not very clean but I have no intention to animate him so I didn't care about all those triangles in the mesh.

as your first character.. you took your risks ?? isn't it ?!.. the MichelAngelo's David is not really the easiest subject to model !
not perfect but a good good mesh.. the major thing is that the head is too big and seems a little bit a caricature of the david..

keep it up !!

Yeah, I was never satisfied with the head and especially with his facial expression. I tweaked on and off but it got even worse. So I am trying to do better on my next character. :)

Very nice model. I believe that his rib cage being too big for his torso was due to the original work from Michelangelo. You did it justice by not making him proportionate to the human figure as he did.

thanks for putting wire up, i must say, it is a good model for your first! but like frances said, david is hard to model.

just a quick gesture / pose crit.

notice david is leaning towards the left, the upper torso area is slanted, and the ab muscles are squashed.

also notice your spine curve? one that goes right down between your chest to abdominal muscles? if slanted, should be curved.

maybe that will solve your hours of tweeking in upper torso area.

cheers.
