Hey everyone, I'm working on a robot spider climbing up some stairs, if you've seen Minority Report you know what I mean.

Oh well, heres my problem.
I have this body which should not be deformed at all, it should just be able to rotate and walk forward, then I have some legs which is smooth bind. the legs are paranted to the body surface, and I have a full skeleton for the body and legs, so the body is also smooth binded, and I move the legs the body starts to deform, really anoying.
I can turn off Envelope for the body so it's not deforming, but then the other problem I can't get it to move forward with the skeleton

Here are a few screen grabs of the skeleton and deforming body:

The skeleton setup - http://w1.853.telia.com/~u85319457/skeletonRig.gif

And the deformations which comes that I do not want - http://w1.853.telia.com/~u85319457/deformErrors.gif

Would be really appreaciated if someone could help with this, starting to get on my nerves.
I would probably have to remake allot of the rigging, but I'm willing to take that way if that is a sollution.

thanks!

Seems like the leg paint weigts are deforming your body, you gonna have to paint the body so the legs dont derform it.

detach the body from the skinning (detach skin) and parent it under the root joint. then it will not be deformed by the bones, just mooved with them.

Thanks for the answers guys

Sp7777: I'm not so familar with painting yet, might have a look at it.

Svenip: The legs are parented to the body, should I unparent them from the body, or will it still work?
also the body got different parts,, I tried that I think, and all the parts of the body just rotated and moved totaly wierd in space.

go and bind the legs (one by one) to the joints which will deform the leg (so only the leg joints you've setup by ik :) ) then just parent the body (which you don't wanna be deformed and only moove with the skeleton) to the root or whatever joint you're taking for forward moovement. (usually the root :) )

Thanks, I did that
but, when the legs are binded to the leg joints the move waaay more forward than the rest of the body, which will make them separate from eachother.
Any idea what is happening?

ok, I got it to work now,
but another problem came.
When I set keys for all the IKs for the leg so that I may move the root and the other joints bend, like our knees do, all the legs follow, except for one, it moves down, while the rest stays on the ground, this is really wierd

EDIT: I just saw that I had parented the Ik handle for that leg under the skeleton, that's why.

sounds like double transform. look of the surface is somewhere parented or grouped under a node which you're moovin with the skeleton.

it should be this. every surface which is "bind" to the skeleton group, and then unparent the group from all. it must stay seperatly. all the other surface which you don't wanna deform just moove with, parent under the appropriate joint.

Thanks svenip for your help (as always ;) )

I think I got it all working now, time to animate (again), wasn't happy with the first animation anyway.

I owe you a

Minority Report is really good, original and exiciting, and eye candy for us 3d freaks

I got a bit Matrix feeling over it, with some wierd things the world is working around etc, hard to explain without spoiling anything.

You should see it, really nice movie, with nice music too (made by best movie composer IMO, John Williams :) )
