Hello, here's one of the first little doodles I came up with while brainstorming for some kind of theme. I think I was playing with the idea of humans adapting to be able to suck nutrients out of the air like air plants do - don't think I'll be continuing with the theme but ah well :) Comments are really welcome, thanks for looking!

Here's part one of the second brainstorming sketch - just trying to get the pose right - I had this idea of being able to wear your emotions with some sort of display device built in somewhere. In this particular sketch I was toying with the idea of having buttons you could press to bring up messages to give people the right idea. I think the world needs clarification of communication anyway. Certainly this whole paragraph needs it! :)

Previous sketch continued - there's a little sign on her head flashing "NO" that doesn't quite show up in the screenshot I took. I'm not sure how much information is enough, so I'm just posting whatever screenshots I took during the drawing process (I often forget to take them!). Next step - draw in some punters?:)

A garden pickle, grown to massive proportions and adapted for maximum nutrient absorption in the arid conditions of a world gone bad!

A garden pickle?! Might give a whole new reading to "Soilent Green," right?

I'm really into the idea of a technology that would assist human communication... perhaps in response to an atrophied skill due to the rise of anti-social interaction via electronic communication. Perhaps we forget how to use body language after decades of exisiting in darkened room faces focused on pixels.

Anyhow, those are my left-field suggestions!

Thanks for the reply! I do like the idea of us becoming dependent on machines to communicate - it's already happening. The garden pickle was just for fun really:) I'll probably go back to the communication idea, I'd like to have a kitsch 50's style advertisement thing going - you know, with the 'Before, JimBobJr was just a lowly man whose wife and boss despised him... After, he was a NEW MAN". Something which on the outside looks like a great happy thing but really is a sign of how disturbing the world's gotten to be. Glad to have your feedback!

A giant garden pickle....unusual concept, but I like it...

really like the 50's kitsch style concept...totally unlike anything else in this competition and lots of potential.

Nice sketches too - i prefer the second to third sketches, though not sure why

good to see someone else from the UK

Keep the work coming:thumbsup: :)

Thanks for the replies guys, I really appreciate the feedback! I wish I'd discovered the forums earlier - the concept of the contest is neat too, albeit slightly daunting! Hopefully I'll manage to finish something on time, work/time constraints and all! I think I'll probably end up going for the 50s theme. I like the idea of using bright colours, something I rarely ever do.

Almost forgot this one - just more machinery sketching when I was brainstorming concepts! I'm going to go for the 50's kitsch theme though.

Long period of unproductivity - busy with work! But here's some compositional/conceptual stuff, just to get in the mood of things - I pretty much know what my final colour layout is going to be like now.

Well, I don't know if this counts as line art - I don't generally have any line art with paintings so I hope this blocking out counts! Colours are still muted, I'll probably blend it in with the catwoman background and brighten everything up.

Ahh! Wish I had less deadlines and more time. Anyway, here it is - bunny boiler refers to the film Fatal Attraction and is UK slang for a generally psychotic form of lady:) I was going for a simple, cheesy, governmental sort of feel to the poster. Well, final image result aside, I'm glad I entered - it's been a learning experience and there's some beautiful work going on here. Good luck to everyone!

Great Job! I just wan't you to know that I love the way you did the poster, and it's a great concept for displaying your idea. It reminds me of a type of painting style, but I can't remember the name ;} I'm horrible with names. Good luck with the competition! And good work!
