View Full Version : shadow artifacts in max5 light tracer
pha3z 06-05-2004, 01:18 AM i'm trying to do a light tracer solution in max5 for the first time and there are shadow artifacts showing up that I can't seem to get rid of. I thought it might be geometry so i tried cleaning it up but that didn't fix the problem. There are also some spots around the edges of intersecting planes where there is excessive lighting. is anyone able to tell me what would cause this?
thanks,
jim

Ideally for really tight GI solutions you would have no intersecting planes, aka - manifold mesh. See my post on the subject back when I frist got into the lightracer:

Some of the filtering controls may minimize the artifacts, but with longer render times. Animated GI?

ok i optmized the geometry and the problems went away. its time consuming.. like you said on your other thread about manifold meshes. its not very good for fast production which is what i actually need, but I can find some ways to work with it. thanks for the help :)
