Was thinking about making a crosstire...I just wonder how...

tried lathing, but that only works on splines..and I need a bit space between the bumps..

how is this done?

and create a polygon-object out of it. after that you can select every second polygon belt that has to be extruded and beveled. play around with the selections.

a 2nd way: displacement-mapping.

thanks for the answer..

actually thats the first way I tried to do the model...but it seemd at bit boring and slow.

Displacing maps sounds interesting..might give it a go.
Spoke to afrien of mine - 3ds user that told me to make a shape with the bumps and apply it on a deformer that makes it round.

I will however also try the displacement method

cheers

I would start with a torus and extrude from there too. Seems fastest most logical way. The details could be done with a displacement or bumb but the bigger differences should be modeled. And as for the comment about boring, you expected all modeling to be fun, dream on, some is fun some is labour, its like any job.

Isn't every day with cinema a blast?? =)

No seriously..donno if boring was the right word, have to apologize for my english, a bit bad sometimes...

the problem was with the nobs..think they are to deep to be made with a bump or displacement so I started out with a torus and extruded every nob..and there are like 300 or something..

so I figured there was some other way of doing this..tried the way my friend described and it worked like a charm..I'll show you the progress later..

Thanks for the answer though!!

cheers

Ya I find modelling can get tedious as well sometimes :)

sputnikinspace what if you used a Torus like Kai said, then made an area of the bump section, then used the split command and repeated that many times, then welded it all together after lining everything up again.....might be quicker to just extrude though :hmm:

Hey kiwi - and thanks for the answer..you gotta go easy on me though..I'm just a rookie..You & Kaiskai have skills far beyond mine, and I'm just making some feeble attempts at this..

actually.. I don't have any idea on how to do that(the quote)
ha ha...I have a loooong way to go in Cinema...

see ya
