View Full Version : UV out of zbrush obj
StuManFu 06-04-2004, 01:07 PM Maybe this has already been anwered....but I couldn't find it anywhere.
I've got the demo of XSI 3.5 and I can't seem to get the UV's off an obj saved out fo zbrush.
I am a newbie to XSI, so I'm presuming I'm just missing something an experrienced user takes for granted.
The import obj has so many options that I don't know if this is affecting anything.
Any help would be appreciated.

remember to freeze the projection in the texture editor, before you export to obj.

I'm bringing it into XSI, not the otherway around. I'm thinking it may be a limitation of the demo.

Thanks for the reply, but I was trying to get them in and not out.
I now believe it may be a limitation of the demo version.

Woah. This is an old thread. (Rubs the dust from the screen).
I never got to sort the problem out with the beta. But now I have the full XSI 4.0 to play with, I can tell u it has never been a problem.
So maybe it was a limit of the demo.

so, if you make a GUV tile in zbrush, and then export the obj back in xsi the uv's are preserved?

Yes they come in fine, I've just checked it. (Just in case my memory was playing tricks on me).

Make sure "import UV" is turned on in the import dialog window. It should be on by default. Once imported, you need to delete the user normals (in the explorer view, it's under polygon mesh>clusters>user_normal_cluster>user_normal) to get the object to display properly. If it's not working, then it may be a limitation of the demo.
I believe there are several limitations in the demo version relating to importing/exporting, since you could abuse that to do production work in the demo, which is not allowed.
Rest assured that in the retail version importing obj files from zbrush works fine, as does using zbrush displacement maps on the imported objects.
