Hi to all.

I'm a Lightwave User. I'm quite satisfied with this nice application, but i'm looking for new horizons, so i'm testing 3DSMAX 6 with VRay.

Recently i've been tweaking with materials and i'm trying to imitate a nice grass texture which i was using with Lightwave in my newest projects (architecturals).

The procedure on lightwave consisted in having a grass texture map and various layers of noise of diferent colors and types (actually 7 or 8 layers). This produces a quite reallistic grass from all distances.

So i'm trying to obtain the same effect with Max. I started making a Composited material (i think is the only way to put various layers in the same material), but i have noticed that render times raise too much.

Any ideas to make this fast?

THX in advance

Since your using Vray, it's easy! Use the Vray displacement modifer. It makes wonderful grass. It would also be worth your time to sign up on the chaos web-board as well.

There's several grass threads (with scene examples) on the forum there. I would post the direct links, but you won't be able to view them until you have signed up.
