View Full Version : Noise?
The Neoracle 07-20-2002, 03:39 AM I'm fairly new to maya and I'm trying to use a Max tutorial to make an object. It says to add noise to the object, is there a similar command in Maya? thanks,

More in fact, there is texture related noise (like the noise texture node) and the mel noise() function/command, does it says to add a texture or an expresion, please be more specific, not to mention that every other object in Maya (lights,fur,particles...) has somewhere a noise attribute
I think in max it means you add a noise deformer to the object? like if you try to make a rock or something?!
maya has no noise deformer (if I'm not wrong) but there are some scripts on highend3d.com which do this.

Yes, I'm trying to add noise to the model, I like a deformer. This is the tutorial I'm trying to follow:http://www.nulldesign.de/null.php?skin=high&go=tuto_max1
It takes a model and randomly deformes it. Any suggestions?
(BTW, on the Highend3d scripts, they say they work on Win NT and such, I'm on Mac OSX so none of them work for me? Or will they still work, that was what they were just tested for?)

You could download that, or you could use the Maya Artisan which gives more control, you just paint on the surface how it will look like, a bit more time consuming, but better resault.

when it comes to scripts, usually most work on all OSīs that you can have. only when file operations are involved an irix script might fail on an NT machine.
but a noise should work on all.

I coded a jitter script that does exactly that. The UI isnt really done but it is useable. When i get home tonight I'll post it for you.
I found it very useful to add a bit of randomness or ALOT like in the picture you posted on the tutorial. Was very useful on creating mountains with the right settings.
