Greetings,
I just finished producing 1m45s worth of character animation. The animation footage I supplied was edited down to 1m10s. Now the client would like to know my "fair" market price.
I did the modeling, texturing, animating, lighting, rendering and compositing. The only thing I did not do was edit the piece.
Here's the breakdown of the time: Model - 4 days, rig - 4 days, texture - 3 days, animate - 12.5 days, light - 8.5 days, render 17.5 days (going 24 hours a day, and I have one workstation), composite 3 days.
After looking at my time logs and using what I think are industry standard rates, I came to a value of $20,000.
The client would also like to have all the source files involved and does understand that this will cost more. My first thought was to double it, to $40,000 for the whole thing.
It was a collaborative effort with one person doing storyboarding/direction, one doing music, one doing maquettes, and myself doing the animation. We all had a share in the revenue as per a contract that was drawn up and signed by all of us.
Now that I am out of the "collaborative", the rest would like to continue development. Thus the reason for a buyout.
My question to the professionals of this group:
Are theses prices reasonable?
Thanks for any input.
