Howdy,

My new site is finally up and running:

http://www.cactus3d.com/

Although, there's not much on it yet.

Adios,

I could only view the first of your stills in the gallery. The other links
from the remaining 4 thumbnails didn't work.

Something about the Logo on the splash page doesn't sit right with me:
I believe the '3' is too close to the 'S' *ever so slightly, but noticable enough
to put it off balance, to my tastes anyway. Is kerning the technical term
here ? ;-)

Other than that, nice simple design, I like the sepia tone feel to it over all.
Consistent...

Little bit more content and you're away.

Shoodemup pardner.

You want some crits? What I extremely dislike is the fact that the menu (which is the main element of a website) cannot be reached at any time. Furthermore in the gallery, this is even more unfitting.

Other than that I like it. It fits you (and I love that picture of you on the horse...real Cactus Dan  )

I dig the font you have used. The navigation needs some work though. For example when I look at the gallery, I lose the main menu and then when I click on a picture to view it, I get a plain pic with no way to get back other than using the browser. A last suggestion would be to use a colour for the background that compliments the text better.

Content wise, it is great and I look forward to doing your ik tut soon.

Yeah, I agree. I reckon I was in a little bit of a hurry to get it up and running. I've gone back and made some changes this evening. Check it out again and see if the navigation feels a little better now. There's still more work to do.

Yeah, that´s definetly better now.

But still a crit (sorry  ). The fact that the focus in the menu is always set to the top (and therefore the menu is always changing its structure) is confusing and decreases "surfing workflow".

Like the gallery windows now though

OK, how about now? I changed the menu so that it always appears the same on every page (except the first page). Do you think it would be better at the top of each page or the bottom like I have it now?

Hi, Dan...

First of all, I should talk. My site is a few lines of text just so I can put up some files (I REALLY need to do the site properly), but I think the navigation should be either just at the top or the bottom AND top. my reasoning: the top is alwyas in the same place, the bottom, depending how long a particular page is, could be anywhere.

looking forward to the IK plugin Suite, too!!

better of course but see bobzillas reason why it should be on top (or at the side as you had it before. Just don´t let it change).

I like your page. It fits what I think of when I read your posts.

Regarding the navigation menu, I think it's fine to have it only at the bottom so long as every page is the same size. Choose a resolution you're going for (maximum compatibility with the most users is still generally accepted to be at 640x420*, a size which allows the full page to be viewed in a web browser with the full browser GUI visible). Then make every page fit that resolution and the navigation will always be at the same place.

Even moving, I think the navigation is ok, except when it drops below what I can see. You should never have to scroll down to get to the navigation (I've read the average web browser rarely scrolls down).

*the 640x420 is, of course, a very conservative resolution, but I've found you can usually fit everything you need into it.

Cheers,
Josh

[edit] I just read what you said about it appearing the same on every page. It's centered the same, but in a totally different location on different pages, for me.

Howdy,

Thanks for all the suggestions on improving the navigation. I like bobzilla's idea to have the menu on the top and the bottom, so what I've decided to do is use the graphic font (wanted poster font) for the top menu which will always be in the same position and just use regular text for the bottom menu which will move down further as more content is added to the page.

Check it out: http://www.cactus3d.com

I like it now (though I´d prefer the top-only site). Way better.

much better..imho...what you need to do though is sort out all your font sizes to have some consistency...they are bouncing all over the place in size from section to section...
cheers dan...
