illOgic 07-19-2002, 07:17 PM A half-life mod about a year in a half in dev... got a friend to render some of the weapons. these are the actual ingame weapons and skins, rendered in max. im actually looking for someone who can render well to redo these and do the rest for me.

one of our player models...
This is really some beautiful work,
especially the specular mapping/highlighting,
and the modeling/texturing is topnotch. if these can
work ok in the HL engine, then definetely some kudos to
efficient modeling! they look very high poly.
however, its unfortunate that this looks like a blatant
counterstrike rip, although I think this is the problem with
the pc game industry in general...
anyways, beautiful work.

precaite the comments. on the surface, weapons and player models, do look a bit counter-strike, and unfortunitely, being a HL mod, we are going to get that exact response from time to time. The gameplay however, is nothing like CS. we are also working on getting some custom weaponary in there.

those weapons and ammo look really good. I would like to see a wireframe of the objects, if I may.

Jeeze its a bloody hell good texturing:drool:
Did you skin them? One of the coolest skinning (especially all these guns).
Could you get some info on workflow of painting them? I mean if they were all handpainted or prerendered and retouched later etc.
Simply AWESOME WORK! :buttrock: :buttrock: :buttrock:

me and my co-founder adam skinned the players. most of the weapons were skinned by lonewolf, who is a god at weapons skinning. all were done in photoshop, 256 X 256 skinmaps, some with 512 then resized.
the player models were actually exported with the meshed 3ds file to mdl format, then the meshes were exported, skinned, and reimported back onto the model using HL model viewer. this way while skinning we could see how the skin reacted to the animations.

im not modeler...so i have no idea how to do that in 3dexploration. sorry.

Damn impressive models, but whats the poly count. I wouldn't think the HL Engine could hack a lot of polygons say about 900 really the max, especially with multiple players.
But sweet action, shame it's like cs and Tom Clancy.

well, the comparison visually, i guess you can compare to cs, we look much better. gameplay will be extremely different. the Tom Clancy thing, i had this mod laid out before they annouced ghost recon, it still wasnt released yet, the names were similar, which really bothered me, but i was too far into the planning before then to stop.
I mean if you look at it, its a "terrorist vrs counterterriost" scenerio. its a different way, but to compare to CS is like comparing, ghost recon, or rouge spear, or Hostile intent mod, or Urban Assault mod, and a score of others. each one has there own unique twist on the T vrs CT scenerio, and most be judged because CS just happened to be the first one to do it.
if this is the closeminded attitude, are all games that are ww2 or ww1 related going to be compared or copying off MOHAA, or DOD? i think not.
People like to down mods featuring this type of gameplay comparing it to cs because it seems to be the trend. this is within reason, we all know that after gladiator, about 50 gladiator mods launched, as well as black hawk down, but that is to a point. even then, one or two really good original mods arise out of those numbers.
Ive worked hard to make this mod original, and its gamerules and features original, so please, before any comments comparing it to cs arise, do me a favor and read the story, the features, and gameplay, then if you still think CS, tell why, and ill try harder to make it less like it. nothing like living in a shadow of something that has nothing to do with you.

I recently checked out your site and I must say your attention to detail is near mind boggling. It honestly makes me smile to see a group of individuals produceing studio quality work and seeing that quality through to the end. I wish I had something more profound or helpful to say, but I don't. My only advice would be to keep pushing the envolope and make future gameing companies think twice before produceing a FPS that doesn't look as good as yours.
Always a sap for motivation,
