Hi,
here is the model I want to texture.
http://reiv.9online.fr/imgup/BodyView01.jpg
Thats my first complete body so I've got no idea how to texture it.
First, I don't know what size should I use for the maps considering I want to be able to make a portrait of the character without having blurred textures around the neck for example.
Also hwo many files do I have to make? I mean do I need different maps for the different parts of the body (hands, feet, everything else...)? In this case how can I make smooths transitions between the maps (I particularly think between the different bump maps).
For example how this is mapped? : http://www.stevengiesler.com/matrix3.html (from http://www.stevengiesler.com)
(sharp textures, no visible transition between different maps ...).

I hope I'been clear enough :).

Thanks in advance,
reiv.

For texture sizes, consider how she will be rendered. How many pixels maximum will she occupy on screen. Then basically tailor your map sizes to that.

As for how many separate textures, there are many ways to approach this. Some paint the whole body with one texture, all UVs are packed into one map (usually for use with a game model). Some use a separate bitmap for each section of the body.

Looks like you're using 3ds max. Neil Blevins has a nice tutorial about using Masks and multiple UV channels to hide seams.
http://www.neilblevins.com/cg_education/map_channels/map_channels.htm

Or you can use a 3D painting program to paint across the seams, fixing them. A couple popular 3d paint proggies...
