Hello everyone.
I finished a short animation using this character which I built about a year ago.

http://www.sheenmasu.com/images/picts/shapes.jpg
Bad Singer (MPEG 2MB) (http://www.sheenmasu.com/images/picts/bad_singer2.mpg)

Smooth bind was used to do main facial movements and morph targets were added to support secondly deformations.
I made a simple face UI to drive facial system.
http://sheenmasu.com/images/picts/face_ctrl.jpg
Face Demo (MPEG 1MB) (http://www.sheenmasu.com/images/picts/face_ctrl.mpg)

As for the body deformer, I used smoothBind with influence objects (muscles) with use component on.
I deformed the influence object to do the tendens on her neck.

I hope you enjoy the animation.

its pretty cool. Did you get your little sister to sing or something?
:P The lips seemed in synch and the movements of her hands and the rest of her body were pretty seamless.
And most of the time you can read her expressions into what she might be thinking. Wich isnt always and easy thing to do.
Good job.

AHHAHA!!!!!! That was GREAT!!!! I love it!!!

But the dancing at the start looks a little jerky. This is minor though, the facial animation cool.

Nice work!

Some lovely, absolutely incredible facial poses there, the interaction of the lips on the pucker in the test 1mb avi was some of the most wonderful stuff I'd seen in facial animation.

awesome...I loved it..watched it quite a few times.
very original and a good work on it.

My only critique is when she messes up and jumps off screen the lip sync seems fast..maybe show more of her face and her saying she messed up..loved it though..good job.

Man, that looks awesome! Really beautiful. This was done in Maya, right? And does anyone know if there's a way to create a face UI like this one (second clip) for 3d studio max 5?

What's she singing? "Fly Me To The Moon"?

One thing, though... I think her neck is too thick, but that's just me being nitpicky.

Really nice lip sync

Not sure about the shoulder movement when she dance, might be a lil smoother.

Nice job!

Thanks everyone for your posts.
I really enjoy reading them.

>whats smoothbind?
I used Maya and smoothBind is Maya’s skinning process.

I would think so.
I do not use Max, it was all done in Maya and I used curves to make this UI.
You should be able to create curve UI in Max and make expressions to drive bone position, morph targets and so on.

Not right now but I can tell you the main process here.
I made the UI with curves and smoothBind the deforming curves.
Joints are the children of facial controllers and that drives face system that deforms the character’s face.
I parented the face UI under the camera so that I will be there wherever you move the camera.

Here is her rendered image.

I understand that you have joints driving the face, but I dont understand how you use the curves or smooth bind?
Is the curves the curves you used to design the face for the facial UI and then smooth bind the joints to that? Then where does the deformers fall in? I really want to understand this so I can make a face that I can use for lipsyncing to.
thanks sheen.

Aside from the atrocious singing, there is a lot of personality and an odd sexiness about the character's movements and expressions. Her movement across the frame (the composition) was interesting.

FaceUI is not deforming her face at all.
It is just like an attributes in channel box driving morph targets.
So when the jaw controller moves one unit down, character’s jaw opens up.
I hope I answered your questions.
Let me know if you have more questions.
