Hello everybody.

I'm back with a new image in my Egyptian artifacts project. This time around it's an egyptian flute. This image was mainly made for texturing practice and figuring out the boolean extraction method in 3Dsmax.

Rendered with the scanline renderer. 20.000 poly's due to the little dark wire at the top of the flute.

As always.......critique is very welcome, so don't be afraid to give some

Hmm... since most of us don't know how such a flute looks like in real life, I assume, it would be helpfull if you could show some ref.

Looks quite fine so far, but for the mouth-part... it somewhat gives me the feeling of a child's toy...

just a reference pic i took of the net. http://www.skplace.net/ewout/selmar/mizmar.jpg

The one i have at home and after which the model was made is a bit thinner and the adjustment holes at the bottom are a placed bit more to the top.

As for the mouth piece......I'm not entirely happy with it myself. Probably should have used the noise modifier more evident. The whole scene took me about a day to model, texture, light, animate and render.

well it just me...but the texture of that kind..usually not reflective..you know...a dirty textur with a shiny material...kind of wierd...
exept from that...the model is very nice

First off, great work. That said, the [metal} flared at the bottom of the flute seems a bit splotchy...the same metal up at the top seems more metal-like...and maybe a bit more sheen on the wood, as if it had been handled a lot. Wonderful model though, keep em coming!

Thnx for the comments guys!

I know i should have worked a bit more on the textures, i'm not enterily happy with how they ended up.

The real mizmar ( the proper name for this type of flute ) has a darker kind of wood and copper. It also is more dirty then my model. However since this is only a portion of the work i made for my showreel i could only spend so much time on it.

Anyhow thanx again for your comments, they are appreciated very much.:wavey:

AWESOME

I saw the real Flute in a museum in London and your model looks just like it--except that Flute was thousands of years old and slightly worn and dusty looking......cool image!

Thanks

Eman
