Hi all,

I'm trying to learn how to poly model in the old softimage 3d, you ask why?, well, it's a request for the future company i'm going to work on.

well, if there's someone out there that still uses it I would apreciate all the help I can get.

Basicly I would like to know the following things:

-How to weld vertices, I've tried this with Polygon!weld function, doesnt seam to work properly, what's the best solution for this?

-is it possible to extrude edges?

-how can I have a light in perpective view that always faces the direction of the camera? like the default light in maya and max.

-tutorials, i've tried looking but there's not that many on the internet, please let me know if you got some good links.

Thanks in advance

Have a look at my site. You won't find a larger collection of Softimage3D tutorials anywhere.

how can I have a light in perpective view
Constrain a spotlight to your camera and it's interest to the cameras interest.

Hello mukatsuku (http://www.cgtalk.com/member.php?u=85994),

I have the same problem... I will have to work with the old Softimage 3D.
Don't ask me why... Ask my boss!! ;) Oh, it's terrible to work with a software that's almost dead... specially if you have Maya background.

Anyway, is there a plug in or workaround to tumble, pan and zoom with just one hot key? Like Maya's Alt key.

By the way how are you doing with the old Softimage? vbmenu_register("postmenu_1354981", true);

I believe the S (Supra Key) will allow you to pan, zoom and tumble using the 3 buttons on the mouse.

-there's no unified camera navigation model in SI|3D, S is an XSI thing
-there's no edges in SI|3D
-you need to manually constrain to your camera rig with a spot constrained to the camera and its interest constrained to the camera interest
-there aren't that many tuts about SI|3D I fear, what you'll get from edharriss.com and google is most likely all you can get at all.

you are using a program that's not been developed much since '99, and whose last core modifications (actions in 3.8 SP1) date back to '98.
something may have been done with SI|3D v4, but it was mostly game tools regarding paint and UVs afaik.
