I was looking at Pfffirate movie clip
http://www.cgnetworks.com/mediaplayer.php?movie_id=15

Really curious on the ways of making and animating a flat eye instead of something with dimension in Maya.
Should i do it just as usual and apply a surface shader to it ?
What if i want it to look sorta paper-like with a slide thickness. How should i deform the various blink and such in maya if its just a slide of geometry ( if thats the way to doing it)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't those just animated textures?

yup .
i believe they are animated texture
care to let me know how to make those ?
i usually use blend shape for those dimensional eyes
but when it comes to flat eyes like those paper flat eyes ? I have no darn clue how its executed

I don´t really see what´s so difficult of creating flat eyes in Maya using geometry. I would just use a planar surface and slide it around in front of another planar surface. If you need to conform to the eye surface to the face, then you can just deform it with a lattice. Actually I´ve done flat toon eyes just like this and it worked fine.
