thnx gabe. you got some really solid models yourself, in fact there seems to be a lot of talented people with a lot of original ideas here(kinda intimidating):)

This is a great one. Very funny stuff. Any plans on the detailing/accessories yet?
tubby
07-20-2002, 12:25 AM
thnx ZrO-1, yeah, i am planning to put a bunch of accessories that will kinda hang off the sides, i gotta make a saddle for the rider too as well as a bridal that will be wrapped around the horns. do you think the details of the character are strong enough or do you think i should add more detail to the creature?

this is awesome stuff man!!:buttrock:
i like your concept pretty much too. it is pretty different of the others here! :)

07-20-2002, 01:30 AM
Well, the modeled details you've done all look fabulous. Perhaps all it really needs are some bump maps.
tubby
07-20-2002, 01:42 AM
thnx guys, i am glad to here some of you like it, its always scarey when noone writes, makes me think the model sucks so bad noone has anything to say.ZrO-1, thnx for the input on the detail, ill get to that hopefully this weekend:)
Apt Pupil
07-20-2002, 02:34 AM
Well, I wouldn't worry about yours being bad, I like it alot. Although it's simple, I think it poses alot of potential. I am not to sure why you didn't increase the meshsmooth one more notch, but your probably waiting until the end.
My little suggestion is to not only put alot of details in the harness, but maybe put alot of work in the feather patterns as well. Maybe give the birdy a . . . what's that bird called, the one with the HUGE tail, a cockatrice or something, I forgot the name *puts head down in shame*
Also, it would also be more funny if you also gave the chubby a super heavy loaded back pack and gears with all sorts of trinkets. And for some reason, I envision a reverse baseball's cap (I don't know why:p)
Otherwise, keep up the good work!! You have created a magnificant start here.
I'll certainly keep an eye out for this thread:thumbsup:
tubby
07-20-2002, 03:10 AM
thank you for the compliments Apt Pupil:) , yah, i figure id turn up the smoothness later on, i really like your suggestion about giving the bird detail with some feathers(both bump as well as geometry), is the bird your thinkin a peacock? well thats a great idea! i will certainly work off that idea. i too was thinkin about givin chubby a huge pack or somethin, and maybe a drum stick in his hand that he's eating. i really have a hard time comming up with the details and i reallly appreciate this ideas.well i better get back to my homework so ill have some time to get some of these ideas started, thnx again!!!
rizob
07-20-2002, 05:39 AM
yah this is lookin great i love the belly on him, great charisma, you should make some foot pegs strapped to the beasts legs, the guy could kind of pushon them to get him going. thats tough to say i hope you catch my drift.
keep going this is commin along great.

07-20-2002, 07:22 AM
Doh!! Ya, that's it, a peacock. The sad part is, I have a bird book right beside me (I am also creating a bird for my challenge) and I could have easily checked it up :airguitar Otherwise, I agree with rizob, those foot pegs found on a horses saddle (and include the saddle) would be cool also (I think this is what he meant, but I am not to sure why you would attach it to the birds legs?? I thought those pegs or foot holders were attached to the saddle?)
Well, I can't wait for an update. Keep it up!!

07-20-2002, 07:48 AM
hey guys, i just started on the character again and heres what i got. i added the saddle and a feather with detail on the chest. all of the things added need to be detailed right now as well as finished(foot straps) but i got all excited about posting what i got for now. thanx again for all the input and kind words!

You need to put some kind of pegs in the end of the pole that runs across infront of the saddle. Otherwise the sacks would slide off the ends.

Hey tubby, this is turning out awesome! :applause: This is one of those things that would make a kick-ass, hilarious animation. Just seeing that guy trying to balance the load on that bird would be priceless! Do you have plans to animate it?
Steve
BTW, what app are you using?

07-22-2002, 08:01 PM

thnx Steve Warner for all your compliments!!!, i actually would love to animate him, and i prbably will down the line, maybe like a short struggle with the rider and the bird, ahahah:) , im using 3dsmax4.:) your model is kickin ass itself, i really want to see some updates!
Apt Pupil
07-22-2002, 08:19 PM
Hey there,
Very NIIIICCCEEE, I love what you did since last I saw him. You really did it with the backpack heheheheh:applause:
Just a tiny little suggestion though, right now there is to much happening in the face area of the bird, therefor, I am not sure, but maybe lowering the reins a bit might help. Also, although your character is balanced ok, maybe a little something in the front would help counter act that weight "look" of the back. In this case, I just put a flimcy shader, but I am sure anything else would be fine.
Otherwise, I am looking forward to seeing you tackle the details now that you have blocked everything in. Keep up the good work!!
I'll be back:)

07-22-2002, 10:58 PM
hey Apt Pupil thank you sooo much for those suggestions. thats so cool of you to take the time to mess with the image to show me! all of your ideas are really strong and really good, im gonna use all of them and make the model resemble what youve displayed because it is excactly what it needs. im glad you like it and i am definetly gonna add the details really soon. hey by the way, you are an amazing artist, i saw your concept sketches and my jaw droppped, i like what you have started modeling and it looks like your as strong in modeling as you are in drawing. thnx again and keep up the good work!!:)

07-24-2002, 03:25 AM
Hee hee hee! You make me laugh! Excellent modeling (as usual)..the only suggestion I have might be for your pose. Perhaps you should play with the bird's long neck and streach it out in an attempt to balance the overall load rather than having it rearing back? Just a thought...but in the end, it's up to you and your funny funny sence of humor. keep us posted!:buttrock:

it might just be me..but it's looking a little too busy by the face. You may want to try simplifying the bit or adjusting the ropes or something. Either that, or try to figure out a good angle to show everything. I love the modeling though(you are certainly one of my favorate modelers around)! Keep us posted!
Crash
07-28-2002, 12:29 AM
Remarkeble work. Two things that bother me:
1 I think that you didn' focus enough on the beast it self.
2 The human model is a bit broken, where the arwms are joining and under the belly I think.
I like the lev of details it gives a boost o the realism. I'm sure you'll make it on time, and fix all those minor details. Good luck.
tubby
07-28-2002, 12:55 AM
thnx mebamonster, yah i actually got rid of the stuff on the face and made a simple harness so the face is more visible, yah, it bothered me too.
thnx crash for the crits, i totally agree with the sloppy rigging of the character, im redoin the biped right now. can you give me a little more detail about what you think isnt right on the beast, like what didnt i spend enough time on? i am glad for your input i just was wondering if you can specify that part so i can fix it:) :)
Crash
07-28-2002, 01:06 AM
Don't get me wrong tubby the beast is great, it's just that when i first looked at that image the beast wasn't the leading part. At first glaze it looks like a addon not the main theme. Maybe coz it's small, I dunno I'm not the artist here you must think of sumthin, maybe that's just my opinion. Try rendering it from a 45 degrees izometrical view from the ground with a bit bigger fov, maybe that will work. Greetz. Seen my beast?
tubby
07-28-2002, 01:14 AM
aaaahhhhhh, now i see what you mean. yah its weird cuz i wanted to make the beast inferior in size and mass, but at the same time it takes away from the beast. gosh, im stumped. your point is definetly valid and all i can think of is either to use a camera angle to make the beast more the centre focus or make him bigger(dont wanna do that). hey thnx for input again, i appreciate it!!:) and yeah i checked your beast out, here ill comment on it in your post.:)
tubby
07-29-2002, 07:44 AM
hey guys heres my character in a pose im thinkin about using. he's gonna have the fat guy on his back with the backpack and they are gonna be climbing a pile of rocks. i was hoping you could give me some input on what you think of this pose. thanx guys!:)
I like the style of your character...
for the posing i think it will be better if the cube is more important ...maybe reduce it at half size... because actually the ankle articulation is not credible... if the contact is not so high i think the pose will be more logical.
Keep it up !! :wip:
tubby
07-29-2002, 09:06 AM
hey thnx a lot zeb, ive been sittin here all day tryin to tweek this pose and the envelopes and i couldnt figure out what looked off. yah, the ankle totally looks too exxagerated. well thank you and hopefully ill be posting the beast with the rider on really soon. oh by the way i checked out your site, man you got talent, there is a lot of really good work on there:) oh heres a shot of all the updated models without a pose, sorry for the horrible render:) :)
mebamonster
07-29-2002, 07:45 PM
i love the details you have added in ...and taken away. I want to see them posed already...and with a better render!:) I agree with zeb about the foot being a bit too high...do you know what your rider will be doing yet? I wanna see! I want updates!!! Anywho...keep up the great work tubby!
wonderful! the details, the idea.......I love all :)
Steve Warner
07-30-2002, 05:16 AM
Tubby, this has turned out so fantastic! It's definitely one of my favorite pieces. I see Zeb's point, but I'm going to disagree and say I like the pose. No, it's not 100% technically accurate, but then again, what part of animation really is? The thing I like about the overly exaggerated pose is that it looks like an insane move. I just want to shout at the character to jump off the bird's back, 'cause he's heading for a fall.
Anyway, just wanted to drop you a line man and let you know this rocks! :airguitar
Keep up the great work, and keep having fun!
Steve
tubby
07-30-2002, 06:44 AM
thnx Steve thank you for the nice comments, im glad you like it. im am so happy that you responded about liking the pose because it got me thinking if there was a medium in which i can keep the exaggerated look and maybe not make the angle of the ankle so unrealistic, well, i came up with a solution. when i put the boalder in place of the cube it will be rounded enough to make the ankle twist up more to take away from the almost pinched look it has, and the pose will stay the same leaving the exxagerated pose of the body and legs. i am almost ready to send another pic of the fat guy on the bird, its gonna be frickin hilarious! again, thank you for all your comments and help!!!:) :)

but when you doing the final renders...I would maybe not feature the boulder as heavily in the composition...think colour etc etc...
but you already know this.. right...?....
brilliant idea, and one I'll be voting for!

08-02-2002, 08:21 PM
Yup, I agree with everyone, exceptionally well modeled. I love the man, and the bird is great too. But I also agree with Drongo though, that rock is seriously killing your composition. Maybe either change its color, or add 100 more rocks of various sizes so that we don't just focus on that "one" rock (in the middle of nowhere heheheh)
Great Job otherwise:thumbsup:  It was great watching your progress.

thnx apt pupil, yah i will totally change the color of the rock as well as the color of the entire piece, that rock will be accompanied by more (smaller)rocks. i gotta find a good angle to get the bird in tighter without losing the rest of the things.:) :)

I'd love to do it, though; perhaps I'll just have to stop sleeping altogether:D
tubby
08-03-2002, 01:19 AM
yah, i get around the sleeping part by eating a constant diet of grounded coffe beans, forget diluting it with water, hell, i eatem straight out of the bag with a spoon. works great, only drawback is the occasional twiching eye.
erilaz
08-03-2002, 04:15 AM
Coffee doesn't realy work for me, except for the smell. I prefer tea! Wonderful, wonderful tea. Ahhhh.... :D

swag, i appreciate yuor suggestion and i understand what your talkin about but i personally like that effect. i think the hard contrast of light and dark adds a lot of feel and interest to the piece, and alsoexxagerates the details, i draw the same way:) thnx for the suggestions as well as your compliments:)
