View Full Version : animating with a memory intensive model ?

I have a model of a head that i have created blendshapes for, textured, has fur attached to it, and is all set up to animate. Only problem is that theres a lot of history on it and it lags alot when i try to animate it, so much so that its really hard to work with.

is there anyway i can delete all the parts of the history i dont want, but still keep the parts like the skinning and blendshapes on there, in hopes that it wont be such a strain on my pc's memory?

or as an alternative, any way i can animate with a less memory intensive model and then transfer the keyframes over to my current model? any tips or suggestions would be appreciated. thnx

Idealy you would have wanted to create a low res mesh and wrap deform that to your high res mesh with all the bells and whistles on it. That way you can animate freely without any lag, while the wrap updates the high res, then just render the high res out.

well its not that its a hi res mesh, im still working with the low res version and was just going to add a smooth to it b4 rendering. I think its just all the stuff thats in its history that makes it so slow when im animating it.

do you have fur on the low res that you're animating?

Well, I guess its not really on the low poly model. theres an object that has fur on it, thats parented to it. So, technically no.

did you clean up your scene before you rigged and skinned your character? You want to make sure that you clean up all the dag nodes that you don't need and delete the hist.

you can also animate on a separate rig and transfer the animation before rendering.. do a search for transfering animation.
