View Full Version : my character needs a skirt
Hi all,
So long time since my last post, but I really need your help.
I've got a walking character, made with poser and imported with ePLA.
The walk cycle is ok.
Now, I need him to wear a skirt. the problem is that the skirt MUST be in a very light fabric, it must float a bit, while the character is walking.
I tried simple PLA animation but I wasn't good enough to animate the clothes.
I tried a lot of dynamics, 3 nights longs, but there are always fabric going through the character.
I tried to PLA edit the flattened Dynamics animations, but the frame per frame editing imply lot jittering.
I tried to adapt the "sik collision" (Colliding SIK chains with rigid bodies) from Bonkers.de, without any success.
Now, I really don't know what to do... so I need you help.
Thanks in advance

Hi Eric,
how about using SIK bones and control them via goals that are fixed to the deformed mesh? You can even controll the stiffness of the connection depending on the movemen tgoing towards or away from the character to prevent intersection.
Cheers

I'm not familiar with SIK, so, could you please estimate the time you would need to put that thing in place, and the cost... If you're interested, I will ask to the producer.
Thanks in advance, Srek

Sorry, i can't help you myself, but i think there are several pretty good animators here that know Soft IK and Xpresso sufficently for this.

Thanks again Srek,
So, is there anybody who thinks to be strong enough for that challenge?
I'll also ask on FC4D forum, but your solution seems to be exactly what I need, Srek.
If nobody reply, I will have to put myself in SIK and Xpresso...
I created a simple example on the concept, maybe it'll help you.

Thanks a lot Srek! It seems to be a solution... I'll explore it as soon as possible and keep you informed.

The vibrate tag supplies the animation to the bone.

WOW! From outta nowhere!!!
Adam... have you been drinky-drinky.
Come on now... let's raise the bar here at CGTalk. No need for such childish outbursts....I'm going to take the high road here and rise above your need to bring others down to feel better about yourself.
Sidenote: Actually, I thought it looked more like your cueball head. :buttrock: (yeah thats right... I gave myself a buttrock)

Srek,
Do you know that your host is blocking all of your .mov files from download?
I wasn't sure if you knew or not, but you may want to contact them about this.
good luck,

Hi,
movies are working 100% fine here and i have no other report on this beside yours. Maybe something is not working correctly on your side?

I did'nt bother setting vertix weight or restriction tags
in this quick sample but
if you created your walk cycle in poser you can export the BVH
motion and have C4D convert it to a rig with the poser animation
data intact upon import
I dont have Mocca so im not sure how hard it would bee to set up SIK
on one of these preanimated rigs imported from a BVH file

Hi Teg, I don't know if you remember the Mam'Goudig's dance. It was with poser 4 + pro pack and the old plugin to export to V7. In this case, the skirt ( robe ) was modeled in the same mesh in C4D, export to Poser Prop Pack ( Obj format ) with selected part to conform the barney's rig from PPP. I used a BVH Motion, and back to c4d. The old way... but nice render at the end. You can see some old rendering tests here :
Mam'Goudig Walk on the scene ( 173 ko ) (http://www.lev-communication.fr/testimg/scene4goudig.mov)
Mam'Goudig in african dance ( 1,2 Mo ) (http://www.lev-communication.fr/testimg/mam_fil.mov)
As you know, you can find my tutorial on frenchcinema4d site. :D
Good luck ! Sorry to post this solution, but so fun to remember these old files. I hope you like !
