View Full Version : switching to C4D
mrfsrf 05-30-2004, 03:04 PM Hi all.
I made my decison to switch to C4D when my G5 (dual 2GHz) arrives, hopefully in 1 week.
I used to work in 3dsmax and Brazil r/s and little bit with Vray.
I'm interested in personal experiences with such setup. Is it faster or at least as fast as pc counterpart Dual Xeons, does C4D 8.5 supports 64-bit.. I know that it supports dual processors.
What about SSS, I think i read somewhere that therer is no direct support for it, but with plug-in (translucency) you can achive similar effects.
thanks, looking forward to see you all more in these forum.:wavey:

I have a dual cpu and C4D exploits both the cpu's very well. C4D has direct support for SSS, but you have to buy either the Advanced Render module or a Bundle (XL or Studio)
Nice BOC signature btw ;)

The 2GHz G5 is pretty good, although the Xeons are a bit faster currently. Once CINEMA can be optimized for the G5 the difference won't make a difference ;)
Have a look at www.imashination.com for some CINEBENCH results, note that most of the G5 tests are run with the hand optimized CINEBENCH version.
does C4D 8.5 supports 64-bit..
No it doesn't and neither does OS X. Currently you get no additonal benefit from the 64 Bit CPU since neither the operating system nor the development tools for this are final.
I know that it supports dual processors.
Actualy CINEMA supports up to 16 processors.

8.5 with Advanced Render includes SSS. There are two plugins available for effects like SSS, translucency by VREEL and Chanlum from Naam.

Yeah, I feel like my dual 2ghz G5 still has tons of untapped power, just waiting for full 64-bit C4D and OS X. That said, 8.5 is already a dream on my G5, no complaints. So when the 64-bit software/os does arrive, it will just be gravy....
