Although drawing in negative can produce interesting effects, I think with this piece you're simply drawing outlines when you should be drawing form. If you look at a photo of a person in a dark room with a single light source, alot of his form disappears into the darkness, but the whole shape is still legible through suggestion.
I think this would be a lot more effective if you picked a light source, and only painted the parts of the head that the light hits, leaving the rest to the viewers imagination.
No one puts this to better effect than Frank Miller in his Sin City comics (which, although drawn black on white, achieve the same effect).
