View Full Version : animation promotional stills
turfsk8r 07-18-2002, 10:38 PM These are some promotional stills that we created for our clients. We were doing the scoreboard animations for the Chicago Rush Football team. In all there were ten animations, nine of them used this helmet shaped character that we came up with. We would like to know what you guys think of it.
thanks,

The character's great. I'm not sure of what I think about the helmet deforming with the facial movements though. It works to make them more emotive, but I have a feeling it could look kind of strange--I'd have to see it in motion, I suppose.
I find the lighting's too dark in the stadium shots.

oh man the characters look hilarious
but the helmet deformations do look kind of odd, they'll work depending on the animation style...like if you have exhaggerated squash and stratch everywhere then people will understand the cartoon style your after (if your after that).. but if the animation is more realistic then i'm not so sure the helmet deformations will be understood...

Thanks for the feedback. We were concerned about the helmet deformations. We think it works in the animation. If anyone has a suggest for a location to post video clips we'll up load it.

I'm also of the opinion that deforming the helmets takes away the rigidness of such an object... if you ask a classically trained animator if a bowling bowl squashes and stretches you'll probably get an answer like: it depends.
So if it looks good and the client likes it, then I guess go with it!
:applause:
Watch out for the texture resolution on the team's logo mapped to the ground... it looks pixelated in some pics.
Also, as an extra comment, it would be nice to either see a crowd, but knowing how that is just unreasonable, then you might consider defocusing the background so that it doesn't look absolutely lonely in the stadium... especially if the finished spot will include sound effects of the crowd roaring! :surprised
anyhow, best of luck!

We did add a crowd. They are just flat polys but it does adds to the animation. We will post those soon.
