Hey all...
Software: 3ds max 5
What do you think about this fish tank so far?
I started yesterday, so i've put in a few hours.

I am unhappy with the appearance of the glass on the fish tank.
What can I do to improve the tank

Here are the levels of the glass
Opacity: 22
Specular Level: 100
Glossiness: 50

Reflection 40: Raytrace
Refraction 20: Raytrace

I want to add algae on the tank glass... how would I do that?
Also how can I get better/more realistic room lighting

you need to use a good lighting rig, add some shadows too. or try using free vray ormental ray or something, raytrace is much better.
as for theglass, get thelighting done, this will effect thematerial, then glass needs to reflect somehting, so you will need the rest of the room.

Lighting isn't my forte...
All I have is a spotlight in the room.
and 3 lights in the tank....
The shadows are all turned on, (raytraced).
and you can see the tank material properties above.

There is a room, the floor is wood
The 4 walls are all brick.
and the cieling is a stucco texture.

I want to put ALgae on the glass and I want to make it look as if water is in there, it looks too clear to be filled with water how can i fix that? all i have now is a plane inside the tank as water

Some of the UV maps on the materials is wrong (see bottom of brick wall).

As mentioned, lighting needs improving too. At the moment, there are too many hot spots causing over exposure, making the image a bit of a mess.

No idea about the water...maybe some volumetric fog and a caustic light effect?

Looking forward to seeing some new renders.

yes, the brick wall needs work, i just wanted to put some kind of environment in there, because the default black background was causing problems.

I'm not very good with lighting, and im at work right now till 5pm, i wont be home till 6:15pm and its only 9:42am. So as badly as I want to work on it I cant (thank goodness there is a 3 day weekend coming up). anyway, where can I find out how to light a room?
and what kind of lighting do u recommend for the tank?
Thanks

Pehaps you need to play with the ability to exclude objects from lights/shadows and attenuation of lights too.
