View Full Version : Flash site animated with Messiah> Rendered with Swift3d
crossbones 05-27-2004, 07:06 AM I know this stuff probably doesn't have place here in these forms next to photorealistic CG stuff and fleshed out animations, but I'd figure I would share with the community this site that I did in flash using Messiah to animate the characters and Swift3D for Lightwave to render them to flash Vectors (Gradient shaded loook).
This was a for a Web Design course I had to take in order to substitute for an introductory Digital Design course. I took this class as time to learn Messiah, Refresh up on Lightwave and learn as much as I could about Actionscript.
This was my second time ever using messiah coming from a 3D studio Max Character studio background (And I am talking about the Max 3.1/Max 4 animation environment).

I love the character and treatments you've posted here. Very cool:D And I like your style. But the treatment on your site is kinda giving me the creeps:twisted: Cool, but creepy. At least for me, anyway.
I will say this, though: quite imaginitive!
I would like to see this character in a short anim. Any plans?

Thank you very much for your comments Lyle. I'll really enjoyed using Messiah coming from Max. It was refreshing to have features that work in real-time.
Ira is based on my old Maintenance guy when i lived in North Hollywood. He gave me and my girlfriend the creaps. He left msgs and dug around in our apartment when we were not there.
The exercise here was take a person who is a real character and let them influence my imagination.
The experiment here was to take these phone msgs she had been collecting and create a character out of IRA. What is the "nose"y animal you can think of, the AntEater:buttrock: Ira also has a son he takes with him, his assitant and he is the spitting image of his father. So the joke in the flash site is that he's the same object just instanced and scaled down and then with code retimed.
The look of the toon flash shader was to make him look more inviting.
I do not think I will be doing anything with Ira as the site is pretty much done ( I got an A- [shakes fist]). I want to move on to something else, doing something creative involving Messiah Animation(perhaps rendering soon), 3D modeling and Programming :-)

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm...I'm wondering why you would imply that "you" rigged and animated him in Messiah

I guess when you're doing personal projects, in my case for school, your wearing alot of hats (going from conceptual design, programming, modeling to animation). Most of what you undertake, your going to have experience with. When you struggle with something you don't understand, you tend to ask
questions/help. When you are very privillaged to ask direct questions/help from people like Taron, Shane,Chris and the Legendary Fred Tepper, one can't really say anymore or call what they just did a personal project. I can't call this anymore a personal project, here are the credits.
With leaving no stone unturned, I want to send my big big Thanks out Mr. PauHana himself for answering all my questions and helping me get through the rigging and through to the animation. Which setup created a process to how the rest of the animations would get done. Also thanks to John Riggs for helping with the eye 3 Null setup.
To the HotDog himself Christopher Reid, this monkey knows programming so well he has 0's and 1's in DNA. Chris answered all my actionscript questions and took time to help me establish the game. Also teaching me how to use the more highend dynamic features of Messiah. Also gave me tons of feedback with IRA's intial development.
To Taron, for teaching me everything I know about modeling and specifically giving all the feedback and answering all the problems I ran into when modeling Ira for animation.
To Fred for helping me find all the new features in Messiah's use the online help.
Ummm Good job everybody...
