I have an XSI Advance Enterprise running on a dual Xeon 2x 2.6 Ghz under XPpro
My Graphic card is GE force TI 4600.

XSI constantly crashes. Main crashes occur when I Render Region. Not everytime but mostly. It can also crash if I delete something in the explorer such as Shapes or else..
XSI can crash perhaps 20 times a day, and it's not related to heavy scene.

For example, I've isolated a trouble with a material shader I did (chrome like).
- I saved this shader to disc.
- I open a new scene, create a sphere and apply the new material.
- Draw render region in Camera View, no probs.
- Draw render region in Right View ---> XSI starts rendering (display nothing) and doesn't stop .
Have to quit (program doesn't answer) via Ctrl Alt Sup.

I sent this shader to a friend, he did the same manipulation and had no problems.

I think it might be because of my Graphic card.
-Do some of you use such card smoothly with XSI ?
-Are there some well known drivers to use ?
-Should I change my Graphic card

Here's a link to the XSI certified hardware page...

A new card might not be a bad idea.

Mmmm. Any recomandation on the choice of GFX ?

I also have a quadro 2 MXR card on another machine, might give it a go. But it looks less powerfull, only 32 Mb against 128 MB of the GeForce...

I have a geforce fx, XSI never crashes, but since you have a quadro, its much better than game cards.

ah, but I noticed, under LW, the Ge force is really faster than the quadro 2 MXR.

Could you tell me what drivers are you using ? I've installed the 44.03 as someone pointed me, but I still have a lot of crashes.

Thanx for answering :)

You'r lucky you'v got a Ti, because with that series you can 'softmod' it to a quadro and get great performance/no crashes with XSI.

Get RivaTuner and mod your drivers with it This will make your card into a quadro 4.

see if installing the latest drivers corrects the issue or try recreating the user profile.

Hello Will Mendez :)
I installed the latest drivers, the 56.72, but it is still freezing, specially with render region. Often, when I drag a RR, it starts rendering but display nothing, I then have to force quiting XSI (ctrl alt supr).

Recreating the user profile ? Do you mean buying one of the listed card on Softimage site ?

NO, :) Close XSI then go to your c:\users\username\softimage dir and rename XSI_3.5.1 to XSI_Bak (or something else)
when you restart XSI a new profile will be created.
