View Full Version : Paintbrush Effect...
grimm039 05-27-2004, 12:17 AM This may be a stupid question, but can anyone tell me how I can get this type of effect?

I'm trying to make a logo with this effect (a heron as well ironically enough) but I'm not sure what filters to use. Any help?

Painter 8 can do that. Do you have a Wacom?

Nope, any I probably should've mentioned this (thought I did lol), I only have Photoshop 7 and CS (thought CS isn't yet installed)
Looks like the Tilt of a Wacom in Painter, but you can try to use a brush with a long vertical shape to emulate that, wont be the same thing as using a wacom intuos tablet in Painter but it can generate some aproximate results, and with a little extra work I think you can achieve the same result.

you can squeeze a Ps brush to get it more calligraphic...the rest could come with some fiddling with the brush engine perhaps :)

I'd use a brush shaped like the bigger dot near his throat, then a little bit of scatter, and a little bit of rotate, plus some pressure-sensitivity for the size. Might work.

Ummm... don't forget real ink or paint. It sure beats a simulation. :)

Try them Callegraphic Pens under your bursh (click that small arrow on right like you are loading brushs, its on bottom)
select a angel brush and work with smaller size and paint way. you may have to go back over a line to make it thicker or bumped out.

besides scanning and retouching a real ink drawing, you can use the "liquify filter" to make it look "mushy"! Filter>liquify. Fool around. err... play around? Don't fool around...

I played with it a couple days ago in PS. Took a textured, wet edge, dual brush 5% and squashed it 15%. Rotated & Traced over your jpg example and got good results.
Try some adjustments like curves or brightness and contrast to even things out a bit. In ten minutes I had a good sense or original pen rotation ect, you know the original could have been PS or even a real reed pen & Ink.
I worked on an expanded image 2400x4300 +/- then took it down to a smaller size, attached the attempt.
