Beautiful! The grass is excellent.
The leaves are a bit uniform and strange though... And the lens flare, well... I'm against them. :thumbsdow
Lovely image though!

Excelent dirt and grass. The whole mood is nice. The leaves are really plain though.
Ditch the lense flair.

Lens flare is fine. People like them. 3D people don't. What's your auidence?.
Grass is great, mood is great. Awsome.
Work on your leaf shapes, and find a better way to animate them. As it stands now, they are more of a distraction than anything.
Nice work

everything i think is excellent. your leaves however look "heavy" and do not flow in the wind. also, they all move at once, and do not have the wind varations your grass does. i noticed you grass moves as if the wind is sweeping across....i think you should do the same delayed motion with your leaves. what i mean by "heavy" is they all hang down, and are not attached to the branch, they seem to be hung there.
the rest is absolutely breathtaking.

Overall really good image :)
About the Lens flare thing, You guys have to admit that it's something that happens naturally. It's not something invetend. And besides the Pro's use them almost in any situation. just look SW EP 2. Every specular reflection has a little flare added to them.
I say keep it :)

thx !
I'm agrre with you... there'a a problem with the leaves movement.
when I have made an OpenGL preview it seemed to work better (there weren't opacity mapp) with more random.
I will change the animation and will render an other tree pass.
I know the debate about Lens Flare ...
I think it's not excessive here. it appears only when the sun is front of view, like in reality with a camera.
thanks for your comments.

Trouble with the lens flare is it's not realistic...if you were using a real camera and the sun was bright enough to cause a lens flare it would be burning out the picture with glare and you wouldn't see any of the objects in the scene coz they'd all be black.
It is pretty tho...

I don't know why people always complain about lens flares...
sometimes they are really dispositioned, but i think they make an image more beautyful if you know, where to set them :)
In my eyes, this one looks good and the environment in complete too, so I like the picture :)
The avi doesn't work correct on my computer, perhaps wrong version of DivX, so I can't critisize it

The reason why lense flair is used in films is because lense flair is a natural occuring effect when a bright light is seen through a lense. So with a film, it needs to be there, seeing as the CG is supposed to seem like it is in the scene, and therefore filmed with a camera. If the image isn't supposed to look like it is a real photograph or that it has been filmed with a camera, lense flair should not be there (Just something to keep in mind).
And just because "the pro's" use lense flairs doesn't mean they a good choice by any means!

i was at the Metropolitan Museum of Art yesterday, and I saw a legit Easter Island head. I can tell you from my own eyes that they are much darker, almost like..... obsidian black.
EDIT: almost like coal

Beautiful render. I'm curious about the grass. Particles?

great looking short!
I'd say the grass is made with sasquatch (for those who don't know that a great hair & fur tool, the lite version is included with lw)

yes you're right ! I know that real Easter Island head are not like that.. more smooth , dark..; obsidian is a good definition.
but I don't try to copy reality... just try to find a good rendering..; something credible. With the sun in front of the camera, if I create an "obsidian" surface we don't see the shape of the head, too much dark.
But if I would change one thing in the scene, it would be the head surface. I'm not pleased with oneself.
Yes the grass is made with Sasquatch. the most fast and powerfull fur/hair plugin !! :) I love this plug
here , I used the full version 1.5 the lite version has to limitations for this work.

The picture is great, but there is one problem. I saw today program about this island(with Dawid Atenborough)and I must say that there is no trees on Easter Island.

Nice shot...
There were trees, that's for sure, but one the theories that explain why almost all of them are gone, is that they used them to move the Moais
