The new hair system will do this in seconds try that.

maya6's hair or paint effects should be able to do the job.

you can use a hair sistem to control an ikspline, the only you have to do is connect the world space attribute of the hair curve to the in curve attr of the ikspline handle node

thx man.....
but if i wanna hav a full control of each tail????
+a very close up shot..................
+random movement..........

That´s going to get a bit more complicated. :) For that you´ll need a rig where the dynamic tail is following the animated tail (at least that´s how I´d do it), with possibly the option of blending between the two. For example, you could create a soft body tail which uses your animated tail as a goal. It´s not that hard to set up, but you will have to do some experimenting. I actually wanted to write a script that automated this kind of setup, but unfortunately never really got around to it...

i think the way they did it was to have the tail attached to the sentinel on one end and then have the very tip of the tails be controllable (the little claw). as far as i know they didn't animate the whole tail, just the tips of them, and then left the rest of it to dynamics simulation.
take a look at this (http://www.highend3d.com/maya/tutorials/dyncon/)

My suggestion would be to use a Dynamic Curve from Maya 6's new Hair feature to drive an IK spline. Use the Hair constraints and such to get it so that you can animate the tip of the chain and have it do all the dynamic stuff you want. Also set it up like your basic IK_FK switch. You can then, through set driven keys, create a very easy blend between dynamic and key framed motion. If you need specific instructions or any clarifying on this just ask.
I used this technique to create vines. My characters swing on them and jump between them. So I just did this, and should be able to recall anything pretty quickly.

but one thing i concern is that , im actually doing a sperm wf 10
tail...... and it actually moving wf a few hundred of them....
ill use a instencer on it.... but if i really use the hair.. kind of way...
>will it be too heavy.......... o any way to soft this prom?!?
>can i hav a full control on it so that it can move accordingly wat i wanted any time?!?
>also can be anymated randomlly?!?
<any MEL script that anyone can help>????

You can lock the lenght of the hair so it doesn't stretch and use it to drive your skeleton... There is also a turbulance function for the hair to get more random movement..
The hair system is dam fast not sure how many hairs you can have before you hit the limit but so far its seems very very very very fast....

yeah, the old way.
create a skeletal system for your tail( afew bones would be ok)
then create a spline ik,then grab the nurbs curve and turn it
into softbody.
after you`re done with the dynamic simulation, bake it
and adjust the keyframes to your like.

yup thats what i did..........
now i'm trying to achive a repeat movementof the tail.....
so just wanna know anyone know how to write a expression on a (repeat / loop / random) of the tail itself.....

i'm not really sure what i'm takling about here, but if you wanted a repeating motion while the sperm was moving, couldnt you write an expression involving a sin movement of the curve in the y direction?
