"The Incredibles' daughter has long hair that hangs in front of her face. Human hair is notoriously difficult and often ends up looking like stiff octopus tentacles (see, for example, the WB's Game Over). "

OUCH!

and the undeniable aura of Jobs, who shows up once a week and doesn't even pull a paycheck.

Good Lord - how does the man eat?

I used to say for years that story was the most important thing to us," says Catmull. "Then I realized that all the other studios were saying the same thing. They say that and then they go and produce crap.

This article has some brilliant quotes... :D

Awesome article Jeremy, thanks.

I just love Pixar. I pray someday I will be able to contribute to this overwhelmingly awesome studio.

Cool article. Pixar does things right, I love their mantra.

But it's never been about cheaper, faster, independent at Pixar. "People here love the characters, and they're aware that these films, if done correctly, are living things," says Bird. "If you refer to them as product or franchises, you get bitch-slapped."

My favorite quote from the article. Well said.

I found bugs life to be a bit dull, and formulaic. ANTZ seemed to be genuinly origional and edgy. Bugs life has always been my least favorate Pixar film, and I am a fan of Pixar. Antz didnt look as sophisticated as big's life, but it did have some beautiful set pieces and great particle work. Of course the animation from Pixar was top notch as usual. I have heard that its not that much fun being a lighter there, however, becuase of the number of artists on each production, and the beurocracy and politics present within each production. Im sure the Incredibles will be amazing, however.

No. Personally i think antz is more pixar quality than bugs life. I only liked a few things in Bug's Life, namely that catepillar and the bird (the animation on that thing was amazing. Coolest bird ever). Other than those the entire story was predictable and entirely too anthropomorphic.

... explain Frank Johnson and Ollie Thomas, two of Disney's nine old men, in the animation bible The Illusion of Life.

Ooooh, animation foul call on the Wired magazine editors...

One reason why Bug's Life for me will always hold a top spot on my DVD shelf....

Hopper.

Hands down one of the best animated villains ever done. Handled very deftly from the voice on out. All around powerful performance in that character. Every scene he's in bristles with energy.

Bugs Life wins out for me,

I liked Antz, but none of the characters were that memorable for me.

I hated Antz.

I loved Bug's Life.

I read this at a newsstand today, and I agree it's full of great quotes. The one that stuck with me was:
"But once Walt died, watching Disney films get made, as Mike Barrier said in Funnyworld, was like watching master chefs cook hot dogs,"

Antz really irritated me, but only Pixar's recent work has truly captivated me. Toy story and Bugs Life were great, but they're blown away in comparision to Monsters Inc. and Nemo, and they seems to be getting better all the time.

I loved A Bug's Life. I started to watch Antz once, but stopped after getting bored. (I saw A Bugs Life first) I should watch it again just to be fair.

I thought A Bug's Life story was AWESOME. So polished and refined and water-tight. Good stuff.

It is interesting to see Pixar movies increase in visuals as the films progress, but one thing that always sticks out is the character animation/acting. Just absolutely top-notch.

I cant wait to see what Pete Docter directs next. Monsters is still my favorite story so far. I've watched that movie so many times, I think I can quote it word for word.

Am I rambling? I think I'm rambling.:hmm:

The reason Antz has a place on my DVD shelf is this:

The production design of the ant colony.

It's one of the coolest designs for an animated world I've seen yet. It's rich, lush, imaginative and spell binding. Especially the grand hall. The execution of the artistry in that is super cool. Underground it's a great looking film.

Since we're all reminicing about our favorite Pixar/Dreamworks animated scene I thought I'd share mine.

It's in Shrek, when Donkey and Shrek come walking over the grassy hill and look down on his little cottage. The interaction with the grass, the beautiful set design, everything looks amazing. I love that shot.

Also in Toy Story when Buzz is strapped to the Rocket on Sid's workbench and you can see the rain drizzling down the window and the moonlight shadows are crawling all over the dimly lit room. Sooo much atmosphere.

Okay! My turn! (again)

My favorite little piece of Shrek animation is when Shrek picks donkey up by the ears and tail and his whole body reacts and jiggles to the movement. I dont know if it was simulated or hand-keyframed...but it was awesome.

My favorite Monster's Inc scene (minus um, every scene) is the scene when Boo hugs Sully at the end and her little hand lightly pets his fur as his eyes *barely* get glassy with tears.....ugh. Awesome stuff.

Remberable Nemo animation is when Marlin says, "Whydont-why-whydont why dont we just fry them now and serve them with chips?" The way he darts about is awesome.

I could go on forever.

Fav scene in PIXAr would have to be in Nemo - the turtles and all flying.. err swimming... through the current! BEAUTIFUL, absolutely GORGEOUS scene!! Loved it to pieces! the water effects, shaders and textureing on the turtles, the light and mood... awesome stuff... "Jelleyman...Offspring! Offspring...Jelleyman!" cracks me up every time!

Since we're sharing favourite scenes...

Monsters Inc - Sully, Mike & Boo are walking through the factory whilst it's being scanned, the scanners go off when they walk past but they jump on the wrong guy... watch the third guy that leaps on him, absolutely cracks me up every time!
