Hey people, i completed this is in a night and a day. It's pretty much my first complete 3d model. For my first i think it's pretty good, although i had basically read all of Adam Watkins's book before starting this so that might be why :)

Some of you might remember i posted ages ago for some help on where to start for snoop. Well, this is what my final product ended up looking like. It was for a uni assignment. Here's a story for you....

-------------------------------------**
I purchased Cinema and The Cinema4d R8 Handbook before starting this 3d modelling and animation unit at uni, so when i found out we would be using Lightwave i was pissed off( I just have to add, cinema owns lightwave :) ).
This model i completed actually had to be done in Lightwave, but to be honest, modelling is pretty much modelling in any app, except poser ofcourse, heh. So i created him in Cinema. I couldn't find a way to get my model into Lightwave for surfacing/lighting so i ended up asking on the Lightwave forums( I thought i mytheswell ask.. ) if anyone wanted to model him for me in Lightwave and a very nice guy called Matoo obliged and since i was in an extreme rush to finish this in time without knowing a way to get my model into Lightwave, i ended up using his model for submission( Which is very good btw and the entire post can be found here Link (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=139530) ). Even then, i spent around 30hrs learning heaps about lightwave, especially its surfacing and lighting features( Learned all about HDRI and we don't even get taught it). I spent a whole day with a Lightwave user on IRC learning the ins and outs of the program. Anyway, i finally submitted everything to my tutor( This was about 4 weeks ago btw ). I just found out my tutor found the lightwave post i made and well, he isn't happy and he talked about how i've cheated everyone in the class and myself.
-------------------------------------**

So as well as wanting your opinion on my first complete model, i just wanted to make a point that im sure i've learned more about Lightwave and modelling in general than the majority of my classmates and more than my tutor will ever know i had. Do you think i should be chooped up and fed to the pigs? heh

There are some similarities in the modelling technique of snoopy's head when you compare my model to matoo's, but i modified my original head based on his, which led to a much cleaner head formation. Everything else was modelled using my own methods. WIP screenshots can be found here WIP Screens (http://arach.net.au/~bazman/3d/Snoopy/Screenshots/)

I must admit, i probably shouldn't have used Matoo's model as my submission in the end, but i really think i don't deserve to be SEVERELY penalised when the proof that i've completed my own version of Snoopy and gained heaps of skills is right here. I took matoo's scene, in which he supplied the HDR info and i kid you not i modified almost every aspect of the scenes lights, surfaces and cameras and made sure i understood everything inside the scene that didn't change.
I don't blame my tutor though, rules are rules i guess.

Btw, in our next assignment our character has to be animated. That's why my snoop has been modelled the way he has. It's a group task, so i'll post our finished product when it's done in the next couple of weeks or so.

PS. I've found out a way to get my model from cinema to lightwave :applause:

I think you tutor wants to spend some time in the real commercial world to get a reality check. Deadlines mean doing things to get a job done, sometimes whatever it takes.

Yes if you want to be 100% accurate you could say you cheated, but as you posted on open forums you were hardly sneaking around, and your explanation of extra work in lightwave etc. should count in your favour, it does with me anyway, but then again I'm not your tutor.

If only you could have found out the way to import sooner he would be none the wiser.

Don't let this get you down, use it as a way to prove how good you are, and in both applications by continuing to turn out good work. But ensure you have the evidence or he/she may accuse you of "borrowing" somebody elses models !!

Good luck.

Just remember when you've graduated and out in the working world you'll be learning more, doing more, creating more and be far more skilled whilst they'll still be teaching the same old stuff, year in year out not progressing as you will, watching the "real" world move along leaving them behind.
