Well guys, you know when you have a great idea, you work for many hours without a clue what you are doing and then you sit back and say "ARGHHHHHHHHHHH!".....thats what I did.....but as I don't have much time this will have to do.....needs some obvious tweeking and a few decals, harnesses etc....
It's a kind of biomechanical purpose bred beast of burden (BP4B)...

very cool concept! You can add details now, and remove that damn wiewpoint character ;) keep it up!

Barbie must be so jealous that Ken gets this awsome steed, and she has to settle for that plasticy horse. :p

I agree with Mr. Blanché. The beast is brilliant. Very vell done. I love the design, the modelling, everything... except that guy.

Great work! :D

Sorry, Sorry, Sorry......:shame:

Mr Z. Y. Gote is there purely to show the seating arrangment isn't some badly modelled backplate and I haven't got a rider for him yet (have to do my portfolio and probably wont have time). I will in future remove him.
Details yeh......er....that's the hard bit right....? I shall see what I can do, not totally happy with him...but this is my first challenge and the comments are appreciated! Especially form you guru's of 3D!!

I didn't really understood your concept? It looks like a beast dead for about a million years!

Tell us more about this! BTW! What app do U use! I know that Mr. Z.Y.GOATIE is included in C4D! Any other app?

what's this? a mr. Z.Y.Gote??? interesting....

'Tis a beast from the pits of death itself, where men are interbred to produce slaves and beasts are created from the totured minds of those slaves. Cruel this may be, but the beasts are strong and their part mechanical build makes them tireless. Only once has a beast fallen.....felled by the sword of Barbie, Barbie the Warrior princess on her endless search for Ken the Barbarian......

Well after much consideration I kind of scrapped the first design. It sucked....no amount of repairing could make it better...for me anyway....so here is Bestie MkII....without Ken....or Barbie...

From the side:

Does anyone know a good tut on doing animal feet....just ignore my temporary ones...please!

Now we're cooking with cooky things! Very nice indeed.

What happened to those funky bionic back legs? I quite liked those.

I actually don't think you need much of a tute on feet. They look great to me. A bit blocky around the start of the toes, but very good otherwise.

More! :D

neilyb
07-22-2002, 08:39 AM
Decided on a hoof type foot, this is a sort of pit pony after all. The carts will need a bit of work to make them look aged..etc..this is also my first real attempt at muscle definition...can't you tell....

erilaz
07-22-2002, 09:10 AM
Hey, those other feet were great! I'm not so sure about these hooves.

Still, it's looking good. Muscles are coming along great.

neilyb
07-22-2002, 09:43 AM
Well, those bionic back legs just didn't fit....trust me I tried! I will save them for when I build a completely bionic figure....as for the feet.....AWWWWWW...aza cut 'em off now.......maybe I could have worked on them.....maybe I will.....can we have till September?

erilaz
07-22-2002, 12:25 PM
Let me check my diary... hmmmm... yep, that's fine. September it is! *Quick glance at moderators shaking their heads* Um.... perhaps it would be bext to squeeze it into the current deadline.:D

neilyb
07-23-2002, 07:50 AM
Time is running out....ticktocktick.....
So, I have succesfully transplanted old legs onto new, I will make some kind of scar or cut to make it all look transplanted I think...

erilaz
07-23-2002, 09:27 AM
Much better! (Well, I think anyway).

Hey, i've noticed this is starting to turn into a NeilyB vs. Erilaz thread.
Anybody else care to contribute commentation to this great model?

neilyb
07-23-2002, 11:39 PM
Well, it's 1:39 on my watch....I reckon time to hit the sack....well, now that the news of XL8 has died down a bit...

ight, night...

Very good indeedy! The chains are really solid-looking. I'm not sure about that ridge above the shoulder though. Looks a bit odd.

Fantastic Work NeilyB.

neilyb
07-24-2002, 07:04 AM
Yeh I know but at 4am I had kind of run out of ideas....I think I will attach rings to each link of the chain running up the back....then loop them into the harness.....maybe a couple of buckles....some more details..(which is always a big problem for me!)

NeilyB, that new model is absolutely amazing! It looks incredable. I love the expressivness you have modeled into the face, and the details in the back legs... Awesome!

I like the beginings of your mine-car train contraption.
Really fantastic work so far Neily!

neilyb
07-24-2002, 06:13 PM
Thanks zR-o1....

Well, I'm to that point where I don't want to tweak too much and go overboard...you know the feeling...one more chip with the chisel and it all shatters.....
But i need some inspiration for the harness...maybe I will also include the carriages as a contraption?

...for tonight...I shall sleep on it....after a beer!

neilyb
07-25-2002, 06:26 PM
Just setting the scene a bit here....but due to its not counting I shall make it not too detailed...

Coming along really great! Very impressive work so far. I'd definately work on adding some volume to the shoulder area, right now the way it's built makes the arms not look like they would function very well. Maybe if you add some pistons and gears to give it a big, strong, kind of even shoulder pad look to them?

pit
07-26-2002, 07:41 AM
IMPRESSIVE WORK:eek: Only remark would be the slightly blocky muscles - but that might just be intentional!? Hope u find time to finish this!!!

Hey man, annother nice update. i have to agree with rhid1en about the shoulders. They are the only thing (IMO) that looks a little wonky. Everything else is rockin!

phil
07-26-2002, 08:18 AM
i had totally missed this thread, Doh!
Awesome work neilyb.

Only suggestion wourld be to raise the bar it is pushing on, looks like it should be pushing from the chest for maximum power.

Otherwise it rocks!!!

zeb
07-26-2002, 08:37 AM
Hey nice flubby beast ;)

like other said u could make action more intense : just by tending the arm and maybe rotate in order to have the bar just under his head

neilyb
07-26-2002, 09:16 AM
Weather forcast for the weekend is stonking sunshine.....D'OH. That will mean the girlfriend will want ot be off out somewhere rather than letting me sit at home modelling......PRAY FOR RAIN!!!!
I agree with you all, I was leaving the shoulders till sort of last as they are a real pain to do. Muscles are blocky as this creature isn't really all organic. I need some work on the lower jaw, then add a collar around the neck to a) act a a choke (he stops pushing he gets strangled b) to add smaller chains to the bar, looped round the collar, so he can't drop it. THe carriages also need re-doing. I tested a realtime displacer for Cinema but to be realistic the mesh will need alot more subdividing....on my machine...no can do!

Thanks for the support so far, this is my first challenge and you guys help alot! :applause: It is also my first go at detail in a model (rather than a bump map!)...

neilyb
07-27-2002, 03:23 PM
Well, latest update: Changed the arms a little, re-did the shoulder area as best...maybe have to create a new arm to make it fit better,,,,,,urghhhh.....

Crash
07-27-2002, 11:59 PM
Nice clean wire I like it. Maybe you should add some more detail to the surrounding and the contraption it self. The beast is very nice :) .

erilaz
07-28-2002, 06:39 AM
That harness is great NeilyB! The folds really come out well! This has progressed so well, I'm jealous! :D

neilyb
07-28-2002, 08:53 AM
Yeh, need to add some detail to the flor, add the mine tunnel some craggyness tot he wheels and cart. More detail on the harness, a chain from the harness to the bar(stop it falling on the floor when the beast is whacked!)....how many days left...arghhh!

neilyb
07-28-2002, 11:00 AM
Heres the original sketch, done at work with my favourite art tool...BIC medium......hehehe...

neilyb
07-29-2002, 08:36 PM
still a bit of work to add detail in a few areas, some work on the lower jaw area....

neilyb
07-29-2002, 08:39 PM
...and a wire....er...I have removed any scene from the pics as they are not necessary and hide the feet a little.....theres no juding on the surounding is there? Still some work to do.....

Sweet. I would like to see him with some colors.;)

neilyb
08-01-2002, 08:21 AM
Okay, some colours....I'm all out of time and passion....I have seen some strange and fantastic beasts in this challenge and have lost a bit the will to carry on....well, here he is then. Next time I will have learnt....imagination, practise and time is what is needed!

erilaz
08-01-2002, 08:42 AM
Great work indeed neilyB! :applause:

You've done a great job with this beast, and the colours work very well. I hope you enter the next one!:D

phil
08-01-2002, 08:44 AM
don't be too disheartened neilyb, your beast is excellent, strong concept and excellent modelling. You obviously have all the skills necessary. Just remember that some of the guys posting here would have to be some of the best modellers in the world, if we can come even close to that then I reckon that's pretty damn awesome. It's like the olympics in here, we made it to the first round but it will take a lot more practice to get the gold. But we'll make it if we really want to.

Cheers.

I love your model and have enjoyed watching it develope, so thanks for the effort.

You have done a great job, and im sure you've learned a lot from this challenge(i know i have:) ) And thats what its all about.
btw the colors look good.

08-01-2002, 09:11 AM
I love you guys.....sob...splutter...
I have learnt alot from this, my first challenge and will definately participate in future, providing it is a challenge I can meet! Modelling is about all I do at the mo so thats why I entered.....
But really I have no more time as my weekend will be spent away from any form of computer....sob..lol... not sure how I will handle that....I shall have to take my mouse so I can play with it in my pocket....??????????????:applause:
well, till the next challenge.....any ideas what it will be?

erilaz
08-01-2002, 09:40 AM
I've had heaps of ideas of what it could be during my fevered sleep! :D Here's a few:

"Sweet Dreams": A concept which has to involve at least one sleepy individual.

"At Market": A market scene! What better way for modelling craziness to ensue?

"Damsel In Distress": Purely because it's fun. Note: Does not have to be a female damsel, or even a human damsel. Hee Hee! Keep saying Damsel! It becomes funny, trust me! :D

"Nightmare of Doom": So we can all unleash our darkest dreams on the innocent public!

"Me" : Basically a self portrait! Does not have to be realistic.

"The last guardian": Conjures up cool images.

"Headache": what I had after all these concepts.

I'd write more, but I don't want to fill up your thread with meaningless babble. :surprised

Well YOU ASKED!

:D

neilyb
08-01-2002, 09:50 AM
"Last guardian".....would be cool but could end up looking like the best of burden contest...lots of well defined muscle...

erilaz
08-01-2002, 10:15 AM
I'd be more worried about Damsel in Distress... the common stereotype is over the top busty women, and there's far too much art of that nature out there already! :surprised

Well done bud

From beginning to end you have made huge improvment along the way,and it was most enjoyable to follow

Maybe there should be something like if you win 2 challenges in a row you have to sit the next one out or something,or better still put the challenge winners in their own challenge so we can still drool and have a chance of winning at the same time :)

neilyb
08-02-2002, 05:31 PM
Cheers Stu....maybe we should make the winners do a full tut on their winning entries?

But maybe then they wouldn't enter.......:surprised

kiwi
08-03-2002, 04:53 AM
Ya youre probably right bud they wouldnt enter...I know I wouldnt if I had to write a tute :) .I hate writing tutes,it seems to be an art you have the knack of or you just dont, and I dont :hmm:
