Hi Guys

finally I have som time to work on some 3d

This one is like an old airship but with some modern days improvement...

The whole thing is rigged and animatable (wire, link and bones). I just have to rotate one wheel and the hole machinery is running...the wings going up an down and so forth.

Please let me know what you think...improvements...missing details.... I don't wanna get started texturing before the modelling process is finished

It looks really good. Fantastic. However, unless you are going for a cartoon sort of look, you should make the baloon bigger. If you look at some real airships you will notice that they are absurdely big; for instance, the infamous Hindenburg had over 7 million cubic feet (200,000 cubic meters) of gas capacity. You don't have to go that far, but if you make the baloon a little bigger it should increase the realism.
Still, it's a gorgeous model. I can't wait to see it textured.

Hi Slash

Thanks for taking time to study the picture...and thanks for the nice words and opinions

I'm going for a cartoonish style, but I might scale the ballon up a little I'm just worried it will "overtake" the gondol itself... I had it in mind when modelling the scene thats why i added the "flapping" wings... The motion of the ship will somehow resemble a bird I thought it could be a nice twist to the scene... I just might upload an little animation, just so you could get the idea.

Again thanks

Ernst

Maybe scale the balloon to at least the size of the ship. It's all about the matter of personal taste really when it comes to style.

I don't know much about balloon airships, can't comment on what other details you're missing. To me, the details look good, the ship looks functional =)

I'd say start texturing, looks like the ship is ready to sail to the sky.

Another vote for a bigger Ballon. To me, it looks like it wouldn't be able life the weight of the gondol. Other then that.. I really like the deatail and like randomthoughts said.. Looks Functional.

I would say the gasbag should be at least double the size of the gondola in both length and width, but you wouldn't need to go much above that to be convincing.

Also, a bit of deformation of the gasbag around the lines supporting the ship would help, and you might consider increasing their number (you know, spreading the load out and whatnot).

The gondola looks great, though you may want to increase the number of segments on the large pulley to smooth it out some -- depends on how close you plan on getting with your final render, of course.

Also, it looks as though the crank arms for the wings will hit the lines going to the gasbag in the forward portion of their rotation.

Hi guys

Thanks for the input...

I will upload an image when I get home with a bigger balloon with deformations (How could that slip my mind....thanks)

I've checked the crank arms rotation and they do not hit the lines (I think the view tricks the eye)... but I might move the lines a little further towards the front, just in case

I think I will do some close ups -> the big pulley will get more details

Cheers

Very nice work. I would love to see it animated. The only thing that I see right now, other than the balloon, is the anchor. It looks extremely flat, almost like a piece of paper. Other that that, keep up the good work!

Just though of something else:
The cloth of the wings shows some wear and tear, but the wood of the ships hull doesn't. Try distressing the wood somewhat.

Hi jscheel

thanks for your post and your kind words... You're aboslutely right about the anchor... I had the same feeling..I think I'll do it over.

About the tear and wear... thats is something I will add in the materials... the broken cloth of the left wing is just for testing purpose only... but again thanks...

more images very soon....

That's very cool and also very familar.

Did you use the Westwood Studios game, "Nox" as reference. We did an airship in that games opening cinematic that is nearly identical to this one! :)

But hey, Westwood is now out-of-biz and our cinematics looked pretty bad. ;)

ANYWAY

Great model job, looks stellar!

Hi Pixelsmack

thanks for the words

My reference is from a numbers of different places...but mostly from my own mind...I do remember the game, but not the airship...anyways I allways loved Westwood games... Legend of kyrandia, dune.... wow that was the good old days.

I will keep you guys updated

I'm going on a small vacation for now, but I'll post as soon as I get home, I have rendered a small animation for you guys to check out..will be uploaded next week.

Texturing will begin soon, Do any of you have any nice ideas in mind..as said before I'm going for an old wear and tear style.

Take care

Ernst

Looking good! One other thing, the noose-like ropes on the side of the ship look almost identical. I'm not sure if they are, but the look similar. Can't wait to see this textured.
