I'm doing the usual tileable texture thing, so i've done the offsets and the line filtering, but I now need to get an even tone through the texture.
I remember there used to be a way to get an overall balance of tone in an image. I can't for the life of me remember how to do it!

Any help appreciated. :D

Well it's never a clear cut process, but basically use of the high pass filter on a duplicated layer, then set this to luminosity and it will effectively remove the low frequencies which is the large tonal changes in light. High's (detail) passes through (High-pass) low doesn't and is therefore removed. Experiment with plenty of different filter sizes for the optimum result.
