View Full Version : image mapping question
Animator395 05-23-2004, 04:00 AM Okay so I have an image and it has a transparent background. I wish to only apply the image to my Lightwave object and when I do the background that is transparent in photoshop is now white and all over my character. My question is how do you make it so that all you see on your object is the image and not the suppossedly non existant background?
Thanks for you help

If I understand well, do you need to make the render of a background object with a character in front, but background object isn“t shown in the Alpha Channel?
If is this way, you should go to Object Properties/Render and in Alpha Channel, to choose Unaffected By Object or Constant Black.

Make sure you create an alpha channel in your PSD file and that when you save the image file you're not saving it in format that removes the alpha (e.g. JPG) then when you import the image into Lightwave check that you have Alpha Enabled on in the Image Editor....

huskerdude- That is just what I am trying to do. I guess my question is more or less how to you create an alpha channel in photo shop so that only the image shows up. I have the lightwave part down it the whole photo shop part thats screwing with me right now I think.
Thanks again

If the sole layer you have is a transparent layer in Photoshop then the alpha will be the same as the transparency layer mask. If you have a layer on top of the background (e.g. a white background) in Photoshop you need to select the contents of the layer by CTRL LMB on the layer itself and save the selection. This will create an alpha channel. Alternatively, create a layer mask from your selection, select the layer mask and copy and paste it into a channel layer....
