Howdy. I am gonna start a collaborative short animation with some buddies. They are on Maya and I am on Lightwave. What is the best way to export LW objects to Maya, and Maya objects to LW. I assume textures will not stay baked on the object...just the geometry carries over right? I tried exporting an OBJ a while back to another friend and he could not read it in Maya.

Thanks for any tips or insights!

Well, Kaydara FBX popped up to my mind first (http://www.kaydara.com/products/fbx/index.php) and I remember also a program that acted as a "Hub" between LW and Maya and allowed direct content sharing between the two. Too bad I can't remember the name of that proggie

Two helper programs to convert the data that come to mind are:

Point Oven (http://www.ef9.com/ef9/PO.htm)
and
The Beaver Project (http://www.thebeaverproject.com/HTML-Files/Home.html)

Hope they may help :)

fbx is a good way to go, I just exported a mesh for another artist to work on in Maya or maybe Max (not sure), but he had no prob and it looks great.

There will probably be the obvious issue of certain things like surfaces not transferring over.
