Ok here is another problem i am having. See the attached image. I start by attaching a bone to the cyclinder. But how do i prevent such creasing when the angle gets past a certain degree. I realise this is an exaggerated example, but this effect happens when the angle is only 45 / 50 degrees.

I want to know because when I bone and animate a figure the animation is smooth but i get this horrible creasing around the elbow, knee joints etc.

Seems your main setback is that the cylinder in your example doesn't have enough geometry to deform properly in the joint area. It's best to make sure that the mesh resolution of a joint is high enough to allow for good curve approximation over the normal range of movement for that joint. It also helps to model those areas creatively to limit the "squashing" effect you get in Skin.
