Hi!

I'm a students from the Oslo School of Architecture in Norway. These are some renders from my latest school assignement; to create a dojo for KYUDO (traditional japanese archery)

I've focused on style and feel, more than realism and complexity of the model. The 3d model is just a visualization of the designed building to help teachers/students understand how we want the building to look.

It's all modelled and rendered in 3dmax 6 using mental ray with HDRI lighting + reflection.

(the chairs are "borrowed" from evermotion.org)

Thank you :)

I chose black trees because I think the image looks better that way. I like the way their silouette softens the appearence of the buidling.

About the dark floor between the trees: I did'nt have time to find the right ground texture... it's supposed to be earth or grass... have any tips?

Hehe good pic.

But eh... The japanese do not sit in western style chairs even to this day!

interesting. All of it is extremely basic, and I think if you rendered it any other way it would look totally meh. But, the simplicity of it combined with the HDRI rendering gives it a cool style. I couldn't decide whether I liked it or not, but it is definately unique =) (I don't know much about architecture, but I agree the japanese wouldn't have western chairs)

edit: I appologize, they do have chairs like that in japan (even if the dojo isn't.) My friend from there says so.

Japanese "chairs" would look even better, I agree! But the dojo is not located in Japan, it's in Norway. Therefore we did'nt want the building to bee too japanese, it's more an interpertation of japanese folk houses.
Kyudo is excercised all over the world, and not only by japanese...
