View Full Version : How do I preview light map in max?

Hi guys, I am building an interior environment with photometric lights in it. I have the light map and diffuse map rendered separately so that I can use the light map on tileable textures.

My questions are
1. How do I preview my light map on view port? Do I have to switch to direct x driver and use the light map shader? I noticed that the "base texture" won't let you use change any parameter on the map (like tile).

2. If I want to export to the game engine, to which map slot do I need to assign the light map (like self illumination, ambient color etc.)? I've tried to assign the light map to the self illumination map slot but the light map doesn't display properly; it's like the entire render looks under exposure.

Thanks.

you can see the light map in the viewport if you use the DirectX viewport shader...but if you just assign a bitmap to the diffuse channel then you can see it there too.

leonec, I got the light map worked alright under directx driver except two things

1. Somehow the quality of light map doesn't display properly under "directx 9 shader"; the viewport shows really dim quality of texture. However, the lightmap display really nicely under "directx manager".

2. None of these slots give you the option to change the tile of the texture which means you can not use tileable texture on with light map.

Thanks again.

Is your DirectX driver up to date?

Are you using the Lightmap shader?

Light maps are useually unwrapped textures which means that you don't want them tileable..

A: Yes, I am using Directx 9 driver

Are you using the Lightmap shader?
A: Yes but I was confused between directx 9 shader from shader liberary and directx shader - light map under shader configuration. Is there any difference between these two?

Light maps are useually unwrapped textures which means that you don't want them tileable..
A: You are right about that and I don't want to tile the light map. The reason I was asking about that because I want to use light map on a large area using tileable texture (not light map) and that come back to the question I had before - is there any way to adjust the texture tile somewhere?

Greatly appreciate :)
