Someone started a thread about this earlier but I think it was lost in the cgtalk hack problem thing. So I started this one.

Anyone found a way to get the web browser to view web pages with flash and shockwave in them properly? I installed mozilla and got the flash and shockwave players for mozilla but the web browser still will not load pages perfectly. Even on cgtalk the browser sometimes shows I need plugins to view all the flash ads.

I must bitch a little bit about this browser, as simple as this has to be for Alias, they need to rework this POS. The SI net view blows this thing away!

Alias…

1: Dump this mozzilla source and use an ie source.

2: Make the browser open other windows outside of it. I hate that a web page may have a link to open a new window on it and the browser will not even function with that.

3: Place the web browser also in the Window menu (click window/web browser). Let it open in a separate window and not only in a viewport panel. I get sick of tearing off the panel every time I need it.

4: Does this thing read favorites? I have not found a way yet, so fix that also.

5: Read web pages properly with flash, shockwave & QuickTime!

According to Maya 6 doc it shoud be possible.

"This means that you can add plugins to view Flash movies or do
any of the other activities you’re used to doing from a Web
browser window, all from a panel within the Maya interface."

I have tried the flash plugins & shockwave plugins for normal IE and Mozilla (also Firefox) but same results!

Anyone cared enough to find a solution? Please share the info if you have.

he guys!

if you have any suggestions on how to improve the webbrowser it would be really a good ideo not to post it here but just go to the alias webpage and post it as a featurerequest, cause i'm really not sure, if they are all the post here (basically i doubt it). and don't write "make it like in XSI", but write what features or enhancements you like to see!

Ronny

ps: i'm with you concerning the issues

Well, I don't have maya 6 but I have messed with mozilla in the past in dev projects.

Try this:

1) Download the flash player from http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/alternates/

2) Double click on 'flashplayer7installer.exe' and Click 'Other browser' button.

3) Try and locate a folder named 'plugins' in your maya installation folder and choose to install the flash plugin there.

There should be a 'plugins' folder but if there isn't, I guess you have to ask maya support to help you out.

Alex Yu,

Thanks you! It was just that easy!!

It never came to mind to just install it in the plugins folder. Now I am a little less disappointed with the browser. I just hope Alias works on this browser a lot more in upcoming versions.

I'd like to point out that IE sucks ass and to recommend IE over Firefox is, well, bleh.

I don't care how much more secure they've made it. I HATE IE.

I'm sure many don't agree and will flame me now =)
