View Full Version : Lattice parenting and effecting an object

Hey gang,

I'm doing a model of a guitar pick. The pick has legs on the bottom. What I'm trying to do is have a lattice control the bending and flexing of the top of the pick. That part works fine. The points of the lattice are driven by some joints on the same skeleton that drives the legs of the character (outside of the influence of the lattice). I then parented the lattice to the root of the skeleton because I want it to move with the skeleton (translation in X, Y, Z).

What I'm getting is the lattice goes far away and off of the skeleton when I translate the position of the root joint. I'm guessing my problem lies in the circular situation I've set-up, but what's the way around it?

This is a next to freebie gig, so I don't want to go nuts on it (which is why I didn't mess around with joint weighting and went straight for the lattice).

:scream:SOMEBODY HELP ME!!:scream:

You're getting a double transform. I'm not sure if this is the "correct" solution, but it will work. Bind your lattice directly to the skeleton. Then, select all the vertecies of your character that are outside the base lattice and bind those to the skeleton.

i would setup the whole surface to the lattice (you probably need more divisions for the lattice to the sides) and then create a better skeleton (i gues you wanna have arms) with arms etc. and then bind just the lattice to the skeleton.
