For this session, running until monday 24 may, you have to model a full quadruped animal, imaginary creatures allowed.
You have 4 hours to work on it; Focus on the quadruped characteristics and global style rather than on details.

Post a 2 hours wip image and level0 wires + different views after up to 4 hours.
Please read the speed modeling forum rules (http://cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=124788) before posting.

Have fun!

Thanks! It's sort of a cross between a dog and a horse (hooves) and who knows what else :) Probably part alien considering the nose :)

I like what you've done there too!

Like I said - it doesnt really have 4 legs, but only because they got ripped off - (it's a zombie).. I asked if I should remove it and no one said no, so I just posted my finished mesh even though it doesn't belong here. Sorry.

Nice work dudes! and nickz work is so great it almost makes you cry, but I wont! :p

I’m usually a 3dstudio user but decided to try zbrush 1.55 demo and this is what I came up whit after 80 minutes of modelling (it was the first time ever I put my hands on zbrush)

you guys might help me decide what it is? It started out as a rodent but I think it turned out to be some kind of miniature monkey? Or does any one have another suggestion?

codreanu - I really like you panter (?) keep at it! :buttrock:

Does anyone have anything to say about my modell? I still have 160 minutes left and I do belive it is time to get in on the details and get my hands dirty! rock on! :buttrock:

Well I tried a cat, too difficult for me I guess, without reference.
But it was a good challenge. Don't know why I made him an enormous butt...

codreanu I love your running animal, very simple, nice dynamic.

Okay, 3hrs in Lightwave, think I'm about done, the feet could be better, but the batteries in my mouse need charging!

Tibes: very nice! my only humble critique would be the back leg - looks like a hunk of flab is hanging off there - maybe he's got a small case of Elephantitis? Haha. I would taper it a bit more. Go charge your mouse - you've still got another hour!:)

chikega, you are certainly one of the more talented people around - I would love to see a short time lapse by you in silo, I love the program, but sadly I find it hard to model in it. If I could see how you go about doing things, It would probably convice me to switch over from max, seeing as how I love the program already (but can barely mdoel in it).

Many thanks, and great submission.

chikega
05-24-2004, 02:52 AM
dagoof: thank you for the compliment - I haven't messed with Max in a while. So, it's hard for me to compare Silo to Max. I'm mostly from a LW/C4d background - so, it's nice to be able to have ngons which Silo supports. I made these GIF's - they're not comprehensive by any means. But they'll give you somewhat of any idea of my approach. :)

thanks a ton man, I havent used it as much as I'd like to, are there tools to break an edge into sections? like insert vertices? If it has that and some other tools that I use a lot, along with the great work I've seen from you - could certainly be enough to make me move over. Thank you for spending the time to help me out here!

chikega
05-24-2004, 04:11 AM
Dagoof: The Split tool can add vertices to an edge. Keyboard shortcut "Alt + x" :)

dagoof
05-24-2004, 04:35 AM
is there a way to get something to move on 2 axes at once?

and thanks for showing off the split tool - the time lapse of your face modelling method has also helped me out a lot.

-once again, thank you for spending the time to help me out.

You're like the third max guy who's asked me that. Too funny - must be pretty important. Yes, you can setup the keyboard shortcuts to constrain two axes at a time.

Great model, and thank you for all of your help today. I think I'll make the change sometime soon. Thank god it's only $100 and not too much for me to buy like all the other programs out there.

and yes - the 2 axes thing is more important than you could ever imagine. :)

Thanks for the feedback! I like your, err... thing! I thought the first post was funnier though!

I agree about the back legs, I've spent another half an hour to fix them up a bit, I've also rearranged the spines so that they're a bit more evenly distributed and changed the snout. The reference picture I got had a "beak" type thing on the dino, but I decided it looked weird so changed it to a normal snout. Since tongues seem to be the order of the day I added one of those too!
