I have been lurking in this board for quite a while now. ;)

I am in the process of learning After Effects and progressing quite nicely. While working through a tutorial I became compleatly stumped and was wondering if I can get some help on figuring out exacly what to do.

http://www.ayatoweb.com/ae_tips_e/ae29_e.html#

It deals with creating gridlines in Photoshop and importing them into AE as a 3d layer and using them as a proxy to define the path of an effect. I guess my problem is my lack of knowledge of proxies and also the translation of the tutorial.

Step four is the one that is really throwing my for a loop...
"Grid" is Replaced to "Fractal"

Select the Layer of a Grid Material.
It replaces for the Fractal Material of STEP3.
Pushing the "Option Key (Mac)".
From the Fractal Composition in a Project Window,
Drag and Drop to the Layer of Grid in Timeline Window.
You can Replace the Materials.

Select Layer mode to "Add".

Hrmmm, the limitations of machine translation. :)

Step 4 should read like this: (my interpretation, not translation)

"Grid" is replaced with "Fractal"

Replace the Grid Material with the Fractal Material created in Step 3.
First, select the layer of the Grid Material in the Timeline Window.
Then, while holding down the "Option key (mac)" or the "Alt key (windows)", drag and drop the Fractal composition created in Step 3 from the Project Window to Layer of the Grid Material in the Timeline Window. This is how you can replace the Materials.

Change the layer mode to "Add".

Hope that helps!
