View Full Version : Learning the hypershade....
OrestesMantra 07-16-2002, 05:22 PM ...Is it just me or does the hypershade have a steep learning curve?Im pretty new to Maya(A couple months) and texturing still is the hardest thing for me. It seems almost too open ended and requires alot of trial and error to get a texture to look the way you want it.
Does anyone else feel the same way?

i was pretty new to maya 3 months ago . but after blah . crazy amount time spent workign with the program . it's not as bad anymore .
but before all this . i was quite overwhelmed by all the menus converting from lightwave . the hypershade esepcially is pretty tough . it's not tough learning the basics . but they have a whole texturing network in maya which is pretty - _________ - ;;; hardcore if you ask me .
just spend time more time with it . and look up for some texutring tutorials and you'll get the basics down in no time . and there's way much more to learn even after that . TOO MUCH : |

Yeah, the basics werent hard. I know how to make bricks, shiny things, etc etc but figuring out how to make complex shading networks on your own is somewhat impossible unless your a 3d god.
*Sigh*
*Searches for more tutorials*
this may not be the solution you're looking for, but go check out gnomon's resources. They have videos you can buy for texturing and as always they look great.
I don't understand Maya's hypershade 100% either, but there are a lot of books that will help you with it. That's how i learned what i know in Maya (which isn't a lot hehe). Either books or videos... or an incredibly talented and knowledgeable co-worker. =)
good luck and i'm sorry i couldn't help anymore than that.
